  1. Hi, we are excited to announce that SongKong is now available for any Synology Disk Station that supports Docker (i.e Intel based). If you are not aware of SongKong but are aware of Bliss then you could consider SongKong to be similar type of software, although in many ways it is very different. Its focus is automatic matching of your music via AcoustId/MusicBrainz/Discogs, it can then add very detailed (Roon level) metadata and artwork. SongKong provides automatic song identification for your music, identifying songs, adding metadata and artwork, and also deletion of duplicate songs. It also provides manual editing and a completeness report totally free, and the automated matching can be run in preview mode so you can see the exact results. It can be fully controlled via a web-browser making it totally suitable for use on a Synology Disk Station. If you are a QNAP user then we expect to have it working for QNAP very soon. It has been thoroughly tested upon a Synology DiskStation 218+, and full installation instructions are available here
  2. With AudiophileOptimizer 3.00 we decided to create specific installation guide's for each supported operating system. This covers Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016 & Windows Server 2019. The OS installation itself is a very easy task, still it made sense to create a general guideline how its done properly. Everything else important for great audio playback is done by our AudiophileOptimizer so you don't have to care for all the litte settings and fine-tunings, it's all done for you by AO within a few minutes. Windows 10 is the most complicated OS to install and configure and als the worst sounding from all AO supported OS'es, it's great advantage is its price tough.. If you go the Windows 10 route don't forget to remove most of the bloat that comes with it by using our "Strip down Windows 10" feature of ServiceTool. This features removes and uninstalls dozens and dozens of uneeded software components from Windows 10 making it a bit more suitable for the task of high end audio reproduction. All Server OS'es are much less complicated to install and configure than Windows 10, they don't come loaded with all that bloat but rather with nothing at all. Therefore there's not much to configure or consider during installation aside the decision if you want a graphical user interface or not. Windows Server 2019 in GUI mode gives you about the same sound quality like Windows Serverr 2016 in Core mode, but without the hassle associated with core mode. So for most people in most cases Windows Server 2019 in GUI mode combined with AudiophileOptimizer 3.00 is the best way to go, giving extraordinary good sound quality and all the convenience you could ever want. But before you actually start installing the operating system we highly recommend you to have a close look at our Best Practices guide. It covers many topics aside the OS installation like proper BIOS/UEFI configuration, driver installation, latency settings of your DAC/DDC and so forth. You can find the Computer Audio Best Practices Guide here: https://pdf.highend-audiopc.com/computer_audio_best_practices_guide.pdf If you want to try out one of the AO 3.00 supported OS's you can download the Evaluation ISO's directly from Microsoft by using on of the following Links: Windows Server 2019 Evaluation ISO / Features on Demand ISO Windows Server 2016 Evaluation ISO Windows Server 2012 R2 Evaluation ISO Windows 10 Evaluation ISO And these are the OS setup guides in PDF format for each Operating System compatible with AO 3.00: Windows Server 2019 Setup Guide Windows Server 2016 Setup Guide Windows Server 2012 R2 Setup Guide Windows 10 Setup Guide Enjoy it, AudioPhil
  3. Audiophile UPnP Renderer is a lightweight, HQ audio player, that turns your PC into a dedicated H/W UPnP renderer. It supports WAV and FLAC, BitPerfect and gapless playback, and even single VST for RC (requires bit-depth upconversion to at least 24 bits). Requires Windows 7 + (WASAPI). Audiophile UPnP Renderer Needless to say, that this software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY ... Enjoy.
  4. Hello Audiophile Friends, I upgraded my PC and accordingly I considered to upgrade to Windows 10. Unfortunately, ARC said that my DAC8 is incompatible with W10 and a hardware update is required. The price is 1000$ for the update. Consequently I downgraded to W8.1 Pro which is confirmed by ARC as a compatible Windows version. On their web site there is only one USB Driver which, I assume, is compatible with all current and past ARC USB DACs. Technical support did not clarify this point. However it appears that the driver is not compatible with W8.1 Pro neither. When I connect the DAC via USB 2.0 ports DAC8 can be seen as listed in the devices list of the OS however the driver cannot be updated. Briefly, has someone got an idea about the problem? Is it a driver, OS or port issue? Can somebody provide the old driver that I stupidly did not keep (believe me, I keep and backup everything!). Can Windows 7 fix the issue? Thank you.
  5. I am trying to setup HQPlayer on windows 10 with another windows 10 as NAA. I am running the networkauodiod.exe on the NAA PC and try to connect from the other PC. No matter what I do I the HQPlayer cannot see the NAA. I tried to add firewall permissions, run without antivirus but with not success. Any ideas?
  6. Some of you may know that I don't like Flash drives or MLC or TLC based SSDs. (I know nothing about SLC SSDs). While I love the fast boot time, the flash memory based product used here always seem to diminish sound quality with a kind of glaze over the sound. Yes, I have tried external LPSes to power SSDs. I have also gone to extraordinary lengths to get rid of SSDs using hard disks, NAS based iSCSI boot drives, and most recently USB 3.0 hard drives via an Adnaco fiber connection. The last solution is the best and fastest so far. Despite every effort to stop random disk reads and writes during music playback, Windows 10 seems to want to talk to the disk drive incessantly. Worst, player software like Roon logs everything without providing user controls to turn logging off. Having read about the new 3d Xpoint technology from Intel and Micron for years, product has finally shipped under the Optane brand. 16 and 32gb SSDs are now available using this technology. Whats promising is that Optane has a very simple structure that is lower latency then flash memory. The question is "Does Optane generate far less noise during operation then a flash based SSD?" If so, this could be audio SQ Nirvana. It seems that regular SSDs are constantly testing memory cell data and moving data around even when they are not being accessed. They depend on massive redundancy for reliability. SSDs have internal microprocessors running to get this done. This is a noisy process. In comparison 3d xpoint is actually non-volatile RAM and is directly addressable by the processor. See more here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_XPoint. For $80 you can now get 32gb of Intel Optane packaged as an NVME SSD or drive cache(caching only works on a i7-77XX Z270 machine). My music PC is a i7-6700k Z170 machine. I read an Optane review the other day, http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/8234/intel-optane-raid-worlds-fastest-system-disk/index.html and realized that my machine will run an Optane SSD. So I bought one at Microcenter yesterday. In the SSD package tested here, I suspect there is a processor of sorts to handle the serial to parallel interface from the NVME PCIE bus to the NVRAM. Nevertheless, this process should be much less noisy than a normal SSD. After shrinking my Windows boot drive down to 26gb, I used Paragon Migrate to move the boot image to the Optane memory stick in the motherboard NVME slot. After some BIOS configuration, I can now boot from the Optane stick or USB 3 based 4 TB hard disk at will. All of that aside, as a new technology, the exercise is to learn Optanes impact on sound quality. New memory technologies happen infrequently. My hope is that Optane is far quieter then flash memory and therefore usable as a boot drive. With 4 hours in, I can tell you it's far quieter then any SSD I have ever tried, but still needs to open up a little. The good news is that I am hearing bass lines in well known test tracks that I never heard before. Soundstage started a little too zoomed in, but has receded over the 4 hours of operation so far. Let's see what happens in the next few days. Stay tuned, Larry
  7. Hi, I'm quite new to all this. I've used winamp and vlc, both of which I like, but is there other good software that can make my music sound that bit better? running windows 7. I'm totally blind but don't let that put you off, the only reason I mention this is because I could really do with menues!
  8. My audio-system now works well with digital music. Yet, an expanding audio library brings to light some shortcomings of the software I use - or are they just whishes? My setup: A Win10 computer acting as UPnP media-server; a Chromecast Audio, the optical output of which is connected to my amplifyer; several windows notebooks and a (android) tablet to look up music and cast it to the ChromeCast. It is in this last stage, looking up music, that things begin to get clumsy (especially when compared to my old CD collection). For instance: I ask for 'albums' and get an unsightly long list, arranged (if I'm lucky) in alfabetical order. So I set out to experiment with 'genre'. That works even worse: I now get an even longer lists of individual tracks! My question: is not there a player around which is able to combine several meta-data fields in a selection? For instance, I'd like to see the option 'keep albums together' or 'only show albums', allowing me to more usefully organise my collection in 'genres'. Also, I would like to see the option for further filters to work in an 'additive' way; I mean: 'apply the filter to the selection already made'. Alternatively ( or additionally), selecting on 'tags' would be an option, but afaik 'tags' are not supported by any media-server (?). An additional problem is that I am limited to players supporting 'casting'. So far I tried VLC and BubbleUPnP under Windows; both work fine in principle, but by now present unseemly long lists, and I hardly even started adding my CD collection. For the time being, my only option seems to rely on the 'file-system', folders within folders, to organise my music. YES, that works: I can at least keep albums and/or symphonies together and make a tree with 'genres' subdivided in 'sub-genres' etc. The 'clients' I tried do offer the option to locate music this way. It is still not as accessible as my old CD collection, since I can't (in the stage of searching) see pictures and I can't arrange albums in a certain way; it's all 'alfabetical order'. I can live with that, though, but it seems a bit disappointing when I think of all the extra possibilties a database-structure of my collection, making use of all available meta-data, could offer. By the way, I am aware of the need for meta-data and the problems of these not being well standardised but that is not what I'd like to discuss here; I am just looking for a UPnP-enabled player which can use multiple meta-data fields to make a selection. Thanks for any advice, or links pointing to relevant articles. Mabel
  9. Hello guys. After I spent a lot of time trying to make my dedicated computer work with RAMdisk, I finally managed to succeed in this endeavor. As I tried many different paths, I wrote down everything so that I had some "extra" information when I finally got it, and also to have a guide in case I had to do it again. Well, I didn't have to do it again, hehe, but I hope the information I wrote down as "definitive" in terms of functioning is actually correct and helpful to colleagues in the forum. As I am Brazilian and I wrote the text originally in Portuguese, I spent some time transcribing it into English, so that it is possible to share with colleagues of this forum. I think it's valid, because it really was very difficult to get it for the first time. For those who don't know, RAMdisk is one of the most high-performance methods for audiophiles in the world, and although I've never read anything about it in this forum and only have a personal friend who has tested before me, I've read a lot, a lot , much information in international scope, where it seems that the theme is more evolved. Reducing latency and high throughput is only a small part of the benefits. If that weren't enough, I've never heard any "original" setup, with SSD, SD card, M.2, or anything else, that delivers audio quality as good as RAMdisk. For me, it's the best, but what I don't know is if there are different RAM models that deliver different sonorities (Corsair vs. Kingston; Kingston vs. Crucial; Corsair vs. GSkill; e.g.). To make it easier for me and my colleagues, I created a PDF file that can be downloaded, because the text is large and I also attached some images to make the complicated parts more enlightening. Finally, I remind colleagues that although there are Windows software that makes RAMdisk easily, they only allow a very limited part of RAM to be defined as storage, and they don't allow the operating system itself to be installed or loaded on it. The guide I've tried to create effectively causes 100% of the operating system to go to RAM and run from it. Here is a working video: RAMdisk with Windows Server 2016 Core Mode.pdf RAMdisk Benchmark.pdf RAMdisk Benchmark.pdf
  10. Hi guys, So, I have a little problem with my USB-Sound device. I've got a Soundcraft Notepad-5 connected via USB to my Windows 10 computer. Overall I am very happy with this device, except for one thing. If I play for example a short note in my DAW, the soundcard won't let me hear it. When I play the same note over and over again it will eventually pick up. To me it seems like it thinks that that one sound isn't worth playing through my speakers or something.. very weird indeed! Playing music etc. works perfectly fine.. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? It seems very odd to me, and I can't find anything on the internet about it since it is a fairly new device. I also have installed the latest drivers for it. Thanks in advance! Gerard de Graaf
  11. hi i bought Audirvana and it really plays better at least for my ears then other software like itunes or others may i ask you ? does Audirvana really play better then other (output) ? and what does Audirvana play better? the decoders ? and it's there an alternative for windows ? i use foobar but output is not great like Audirvana and i have tried on the same hardware thanks
  12. I am building my house and I want to set up multi room sound system. I am dedicating a small room for my setup so that I will run all audio cables from here to the rooms. Initially I was thinking of running wires for 7.1 channel in my living room and 2 channel in other rooms, but after using roon and Jriver and playing all my hi-res Multi-channel tracks in multiple rooms with PC, I had a second thought…why not multi room multi-channel from a single PC? Now I am wondering if roon or jriver will support multiple sound cards (pcie based or usb) in the same PC? Then I can run as many wires as I want for such a setup so that I place all the equipment at one place and only the speakers will be in the respective rooms. If possible this will enable me to hookup easily and cheaply! Any thoughts on this topic will be appreciated. Thanks

  17. Hi all, I've been lurking on the CA forums for a couple of years now and decided it was finally time to make my first post. I've been entry level for a few years now and ready to make a long-term investment in some good equipment. With that being said, I'm looking for a good DAC/AMP duo with a $4k budget. The Ragnarok/Yggdrasil duo from Schiit caught my attention but I want to learn about some possible alternatives in case there's a duo better suited for me. Some background, I'm using my PC for playback, 99.5% FLAC files (CD rips) with a few MP3's as well. 75% redbook, 25% hi-res. I think I listen to a solid range of music, so I'm looking for a setup that is flexible and works well with a wide variety of genres since most of my music isn't pristinely recorded. I'm curious about DSD since HQPlayer can upsample PCM to DSD but I don't have any native DSD files. Thank you for your time and your thoughts, Jean
  18. Before setting the registry database: Just do a safe system restore point, how to, is the link here: Create a restore point Must do it just before the reg file is double clicked. If not happy with the results (cause of performance), do a system restore to the point you have created, link how to: System Restore - Microsoft Windows Info about Windows Session Manager Subsystem in Wikipedia: Session Manager Subsystem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Get the registry settings from zip file that is on attachment Unzip it and then double click the Session Manger Optimized.reg Do restart of Windows Then hear the difference in fidelity You can also check the reg file's content text, by right click and then "edit", just don't edit it.
