  1. It does on my "Computer Audiophile on the Cheap" system. Transferring a file via USB3.0 to the SSD from the External 4 Tb Hard Drive, and playing it from the SSD actually sounds better. I don't know why, but it is certainly worth transferring your play-list over from their safe homes on the External, and kill them off when you are done listening. I don't get into arguments with folks about USB interconnects to the external DAC, but some sell for a few dollars and others cost Hundreds. I think phenomena I am describing has more to do with the quicker throughput of the file, from the SSD to the DAC. Don't know, don't care. It sounds better.
  2. Great stocking stuffer! Retails for $120+shipping, asking only $70 including shipping and PayPal fee! Gently burned-in with a choice selection of Davis, Coltrane, Debussy, Reich, and Osborne (Ozzy). Flawless pedigree, only connected to Sonore MicroRendu, Uptone Regens, W4S Recoveries, or Schiit Multibits. Only powered by linear power, of course. Never switching partners. More info: Curious Cables - Usb Cables Paypal only please, no trades. CONUS. Includes box. If you want info on me, see my feedback under the same name at head-fi dot org.
  3. Is it possible tu use the iFi iUSB power unit with the PUC 2 or PUC Lite models ? The PUC 2 has a special USB cable with two A connectors on the PC side and one B connector on the PUC 2. I presume that the same cable is used with the PUC Lite. Any experience with the PUC and a top grade USB cable ? How did you connect it ?
  4. Double Club Ciamara Rewards Points Holiday Special! Enjoy all this and more, automatically with your membership to our Loyalty Program: Free to join – That’s right FREE! All you need is a Ciamara.com account to participate. Earn 10% (usually 5%) back in points on all purchases – For every dollar you spend (excluding tax and shipping), you will receive 10% of your purchase back in points ($1=1point). Points can be used towards future purchases (merchandise only, excludes tax and shipping). Get early access to new products before they go live on the website – We’re constantly adding new products and you will be eligible to pre-order or be the first in line to purchase new merchandise BEFORE it goes live on ciamara.com. Club Ciamara members will be notified of early access to these new products via email. Exclusive members only offers – Throughout the year we’ll have exclusive offers that are only available to our club members. Group buy-in opportunities – We love the idea of offering products at reduced prices on the condition that a minimum number of buyers would make the purchase, so we will be working closely with manufacturers and distributors to find some great products for our Club Ciamara members. Equipment trade-up program – Our lifetime trade-in program will allow club members to trade in components that were purchased from us for credit towards their next purchase. Here’s how it works: The new item must be at least double the value of the trade-in item* (e.g. a $500 item must be traded in for an item that sells for $1000 or higher). Club members will receive up to 100% of their original purchase back in credit towards their new purchase (excluding tax and shipping costs). If the item that is being traded in is a current model, then the club member is eligible to receive 100% in credit. If the item is not current, then the club member can receive up to 66.67% in credit towards their next purchase. Trade-in must be received in good, working condition with the original box and accessories. If these conditions are not met, then the value of the trade-in will be reduced at Ciamara’s discretion. * Not everything is eligible for trade-in, so if you have any questions about whether an item is eligible, please contact one of our sales and/or support experts. 5. I am listening CD and studio quality music files from a Win 7 64bit PC. Question 1: Since the audio data being sent is binary, what are the real advantages of a high end USB cable ( ex.Kimber Kable USB B Bus ) versus a regular USB cable? Question 2: Which digital audio connection is better: USB or Optical fiber (TOSLINK)?
  6. Hi, Has anyone tried using one of the USB to Ethernet adapters. The reason I ask, is I'd like to place my DAC near my preamp and amps. But I want my computer close to me so I can fiddle with settings, restart it, tag files etc. it would take about a 20 foot USB cable to do this and I know that's bad. I would need two of these, one to convert USB 3.0 out to Ethernet and another from Ethernet back to USB. I'd also need an USB 3.0 female to female adapter to attach my Lampizator USB cable to, and then into the USB port on my DAC. It seems like a good solution but I do worry about SQ. Below are the links to a couple of these items on Amazon. Amazon.com : Cable Matters SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter in Black : Usb Network Adapters : Computers & Accessories USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter | Aluratek Just looking for opinions, Thanks, Steven
  7. The Platinum Starlight is considered by many to be amongst the absolute best, reference quality USB cables. This one is in virtually "as new" condition, with aluminum box and certificate of authenticity. 1.5 meters. I will include UPS ground shipping for a US address. PayPal fee also included for domestic buyers only. List price $700.00 Selling for $350.00 Sorry for sideways photo- I have no idea how to rotate it here (answers welcome!)
  8. My issues is as follows. The data is leaving the source via USB, being converted to SPDIF by a M2Tech Hiface2, and going from the Hiface to the processor via coax (with a powered USB hub to help out the Hiface). The total distance is 10 feet and, given the constraints associated with my se-up (seagate wireless plus to ipad mini to apple CCK to USB in an automobile with trunk mounted processor), one cable is going to be about 9 feet and the other cable is going to be about 1 foot. Question: Assuming that good quality cables will be used, am I better off with a long coax cable or a long USB cable? Thanks.

  10. Hi I could not get my head around the fact why a USB cable should be of any influence. This is a shorter, translated version of a dutch article I found. See for the source: http://www.alpha-audio.nl/2011/06/de-usb-kabelmythe/ .. USB transfer modes isochronous (asynchronous), interrupt, bulk and control. Let's start with the most common: bulk. This method is used for data transfer. The bandwidth is not guaranteed, but that's not important. The bus is trying to get it to the highest throughput. With this transfer mode the host controller and the client (the USB drive / stick) perform CRC checks. When the CRC does not match, the data packet is transmitted again. It can not go wrong. The interrupt mode is for machines that have a low 'latency' require: quick response. Think of a mouse. The control mode is used to initialize a device. Finally, the isochronous transfer mode. This is used for audio and video streaming, as USB dacs do. The main advantage of this mode is the guaranteed bandwidth on the bus. This rate is agreed between the controller in the PC and the USB receiver in the DAC. If the speed is not feasible for some reason - too many other devices on the bus, or a bad cable - it will not work. Control In bulk mode (data transfer) crc packets are transmitted. This ensures that errors in transmission are not possible. Or the PC gives an error. In isochronous mode is a crc-check is performed, but the controller does not send a packet again if something goes wrong. The package is therefore 'dropped'. Is that bad? no, it's not audible, as it is a constant flow of data and we talk about a millisecond. But is there a chance a packet gets lost in the first place? More on that later. How is the flow of data is now governed by usb? Very different - much easier and more controlled - than spdif. Every millisecond (1000 Hz) The host sends a USB SOF (start of frame) token. Using this package, with a unique 11bit ID, the receiving side can Synchronize the data. Both sides know exactly what was sent and where the package belongs in the chain. Testing But, skeptics will say, in isochronous mode is no-crc correction. No, that's right. In theory, data loss is possible. To find out how much we did a test. The following software tool shows the data over a USB connection: http://www.usblyzer.com/download.htm. And it shows if packets arrive, crc-checks are correct, etc. U.S. 300 euro 5 euro We purchased a AudioQuest Coffee USB cable, sized 1, 5 meters (ca. 300 euros). Yes: we too were convinced of the usefulness of a high-end USB cable. The AudioQuest entered the fight with a standard cable of 5 euros. This of course meets the USB 2.0 standard. We played a complete song by Massive Attack, twice. Once over the AudioQuest Coffee and once over the budget cable. In both cases, error free data is transferred. A song of more than 5 minutes, more than 300,000 milliseconds ... error free in both cases. Logical And that is very logical when you consider that there is no other information going from a to b then data and synchronization data. There are packets of data going through the cable, supplemented with an ID token which indicates where the packet belongs. The receiver chip in the DAC creates spdif. There it can go wrong: not with the USB transfer. Conclusion Do not be fooled by expensive USB cables. It's a waste of money. We have believed, but are now convinced of the nonsense. with a thorough digital protocol it is simply impossible to ruin the data transfer. The cable is broken or simply does not meet the standard.
