Just wondering if anybody out there has the new JCAT Xact S1 server/streamer?? I have had one for a under 1 month and it is quite impressive IMHO. It combines all the knowledge marcin_jps has learned in the decades of time he has spent working in the digital playback field. JCAT components help optimize DIY or custom servers all over the world now. This is a new place or category in digital playback field. This component is as important as the MOST expensive DACs out there. I am just a client and have no other affiliation to JCAT or Marcin. I am giving my opinion because I feel the Xact S1 is an exceptional game changing product. I would like to hear about others who have or are about to have the JCAT Xact S1 in their system. Thanks for reading. Celebrat

No affiliation to seller (Apos) or the manufacturer. I am just floored by this product. Running Roon and using it as a wireless streamer and DAC. Replacing an Auralic mini, NAD m51 combo. Excellent build quality; Sounds as good if not better out of the box. Easy setup, excellent functionality and nice solid remote. This feeds a W4S pre and amp and eventually my full range Ottavo speakers designed by the late Rick Craig of Selah Audio. No issues playing any bit rate/DSD/FLACs or MQA files. Have not tried various filters etc. I have not done any critical listening yet but seems like a winner. The Auralic (one of my many) was choppy and as it was aging, not reliable, dropping off constantly. Tried a Bluesound Node which was giving me weird noises and hums and seems to be a known issue. Going back to the store. I love the screen/display - fast wireless connection and flawless interface with Roon. For just about 1K it is replacing 2.5K worth of audiogear and many fewer cables. I am sold. Highly recommend it without reservation.

I recently purchased the Moon 390 pre-amp with integrated streamer, as a pre-amp, excellent, as a streamer, terrible - I spoke to my hifi dealership and was given some options for the Linn Akurate DS/2 and Klimax DS3, both very expensive especially given the money I've already outlaid, a couple of questions to the audiophile experts: - What streamer will provide excellent clarity/resolution without breaking the bank (preferably <$3k) that would be a good pairing for this rig? - I've read that the Naim ND5 XS2 is very good, albeit far more money than I wanted to pay, anyone experienced with this who can give a verdict? - Anyone experienced with the Akurate/Klimax who can give some advice here - worth the $11k I am being quoted second hand? - At the moment I've got my laptop rigged up via USB and running Qobuz (moved from Tidal as MQA is garbgage), it sounds very good - any advice on running a PC vs a dedicated streamer? Will the PC match the quality that I would get e.g. through the Naim ND5 XS2? One other question, I've also spent a fortune on cables (Transparent Ultra speaker cable and interconnects - the interconnects alone were $3,000 + tax). Any verdict on how much difference the interconnect will make if I chose not to spend such a ridiculous amount on the Ultras and got the lower spec Transparents, or are they worth the money? Thanks.

Need help with DAC/streamer and multi-room streaming
BhamListener posted a question in Questions and Answers
I am new to this site (although I've been reading it on and off for quite a while), so please excuse this somewhat basic set of questions. I am a long-time music listener and have enjoyed a variety of equipment for the past 50 years. My current system is very streamlined but sounds good: Coda CSiB integrated Sony HAPz1-ES player Audience aR2-TS conditioner Dynaudio Focus 380 speakers I am looking to do two likely separate (but possibly related?) things for which I need advice/explanation: 1) Purchase a DAC/Streamer to replace the Sony. I have gravitated towards streaming music (Tidal and Qobuz), and have a relatively small amount (~200GB) of downloaded HD music which would not be replicated by what’s available on the streaming services. This piece of equipment would be for my primary listening room. I have been reading and am very interested in both Lumin and Auralic brands. 2) Figure out some way to get music into two other rooms separate from my primary listening room. I wish to keep the “systems” in these two other rooms as simple as possible, and they need only be of moderate sonic quality (but capable of playing hi-def streamed music); these rooms would have music playing for parties or for casual listening. Ideally, I would be able to play the same music in all 3 rooms simultaneously (main listening room plus the two others). I would like to keep the systems in these two other rooms wireless. a. I am aware that I would need some wireless active speakers. I have listened to Sonos and am fairly underwhelmed. Are there other speaker brands that I should be checking out? b. I know I need a “source” for music to be played by these speakers. I am aware that both Lumin and Auralic (as examples) allow for multi-room streaming so long as you have one of their units in each room (from Lumin website: “any Lumin unit can be a ‘Receiver’; Lumin X1/T2/D2/etc can all be ‘Senders’. This seems like a very significant expense that will likely be above what I am willing to spend. Are there any other ways of setting up a system that will allow me to accomplish both questions 1 & 2? 3) I have been told that setting up a “server” would solve both questions, but I am unclear how/why that would work, given that I mostly wish to listen to music from streaming services. 4) My budget is up to $5k for the DAC/Streamer, and a total of another $5k (max!) for settling question #2. Any advice/explanation you can offer me would be most appreciated. -
HI all - I've been asking around and hoping for some consensus - is something lovely and sexy like the Lumin U1 Mini really an upgrade in sound quality terms to say an Allo DigiOne Raspberry Pi solution? I want it to be, I mean it ought to be - £1695 compared to a few hundred? I would very much like a real piece of hifi in my rack, but to be fair if it doesn't sound any better then... 🤔 At present I have Roon feeding a DigiOne into a Denafrips Ares II DAC and through a Heed Obelisk SI integrated, coming out through my own DIY Mark Audio full range single driver floor-standers - the system is surprisingly transparent to source changes I have found. The Ares II prefers SPDIF input so that rules out the majority of USB streamers there seem to be about. The Allo is a great little intro to streaming but I really fancy something more audiophile and looking the part... maybe I'm just being silly and as they say a fool and his money are soon parted! 😂
