Has anyone compared sound quality of a Roon ROCK (lightweight Linux) install vs. running Roon Server on an Windows System, with Audiophile Optimizer in Core mode? I’m currently doing the latter on and Intel NUC and it sounds great bit isn’t the most stable. Have to reboot quite often when the server loses connection to my network- (imagine it’s due to some service I’ve shut off in Windows using AO). Was thinking of seeing if I’d still get the SQ benefits of a minimal OS using ROCK, without the network connectivity issues.

Hello, My previous thread on HDD choice having no feedback (and it seems I can't delete it), and my questions growing, I take the liberty of creating a new one. I've spent a long time searching answers to these questions to no avail (it's often related to custom nucs), please excuse me if I missed them: Goal: Rock on stock nuc + Etherregen + ethernet only dac/streamer 1- Which ram would you advise. I read about Apacer, but is it interesting with a stock nuc or should I spend my money elsewhere? 2- HDD: I was leaning towards an external HDD, but would prefer internal storage to avoid clutter. Same question, given there will be the ERegen between the dac and the nuc. If external is still interesting, SSD or HDD, 2.5 or 3.5? model recommendations? 3- LPS: I'm quite convinced it's important, but would like to avoid multiplying them. Is there any solution able to power 3 different devices at the same time, with a good effect on SQ? 4- Vibration management: I'm a firm believer, have you proven tips for nuc, Switch and HDD? Sorry for all these questions. Thank you very much for your help Cheers Arnaud

I recently started my trial for Roon - and love it so far. I also made the jump into Qobuz. CUrrently I have an IMac, running iTunes, running into a Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus into EMotiva powered Speakers. I also have several; Apple Airport Express routers spread around the house using toslink to cvarious DACs and amps-speakers or powered speakers. I have about two terabytes of ripped AIFF files on a local drive to my iMac. A few questions: AFAIK, AirPlay tops out at 16/44 - true? So - if I want to stream high res files - from Qobuz, or if I buy 24/96 tracks - my current setup will down convert to 16/44 because of Airplay/? Is there a way to stream to a WIFI-SUB/or Toslink endpoint that allows for hi-res WIFI Streaming? I see a lot of love here for various Raspberry Pi endpoint solutions. Since I already have amp/powered speakers and Dacs - is that a good option for me - perhaps with a hat that isn’t a dac or an amp, like some of the Allo solutions? Budget is an issue at present- so I’d rather not get one of the Blusound units, e.g. Can I do that with my current setup using the iMac as the Roon Core? With local files +Qobuz hi-res streaming, controlled from my iPhone? If I were to upgrade my equipment, and get a dedicated Roon Core - since my 2016 iMac is my main work machine - is a NUC running Roon Rock the best solution for the $$. Thanks!
