@Josh Mound greets us with Har-Bal representations for a while but I just had the heart to take a trial and can't find much echo here or elsewhere... while it seems pure magic (clarity, dimensionality )! even minding levels and the absolute polarity inversion. It automagically did marvels on the few tracks I tried, including TBVO Muddy Waters or difficult Chopin Nocturnes by Arrau that was reported as non benefitting from a remastering by his beloved looooong remastering software (that I suspect to boost low level info more than anything else anyway) by an aficionado of said soft. I actually used the same tracks while trialing said looong remastering software and it worsened rather than fixed : I'm impressed by Har- Bal. Does anybody have a long term experience of one clic remastering with IntuitQ? (it would be crazy enough to one clic remaster each track, don't even mention spending hours per track...) I admit I'm troubled. I see a "map" with the average and peak levels per frequency distribution of a whole track, not sure I understand how it relates to the "territory" instant per instant when it comes to globally reshape the "map" to smoother features... Any input welcome and I'd be happy if others' jump in to share impressions. The software is not expensive, the trial full...

Does anyone know anything about the upcoming remaster of Bob Mould's last Sugar? Here it is on pre-order from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/File-Under-Listening-Deluxe-Edition/dp/B007KLY8PK/ref=sr_1_10?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1341118010&sr=1-10&keywords=dvd+audio I wish HDtracks could get ahold of these tapes. I love this album very much! It looks like Copper Blue and Beaster is getting remastered also: http://www.amazon.com/Copper-Blue-Sugar/dp/B007KLY8VY/ref=sr_1_51?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1341118499&sr=1-51&keywords=dvd+audio http://www.amazon.com/Beaster-Deluxe-Edition-Sugar/dp/B007KLY8U0/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_3

How do you handle, in the metadata, in iTunes in particular, releases where the album was released in the 1950's or 1970's, yet the date in the metadata is set for 2010 or 2012. Compilations are another matter, and the release date of 2005 of an album for an artist's work spanning decades is acceptable. This was brought into sharp relief when I downloaded Rod Stewart's Every Picture Tells a Story, released in 1971, but has a date reflecting it's remastering, 2012. Other examples... The Eagles, Hotel California, 2011 Jackson Brown's Running on Empty, 2005, McCartney's Band on the Run, 2010 Digital Remasters all, even though the albums were released in 1977 (Hotel California and Running on Empty) and 1973 (Band on the Run). Then it gets ridiculous with two Blue Note releases. Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage (recorded in 1965) and John Coltrane's Blue Train (released in 1957). They both have the Year set to 2012. This remaster dating makes a hash out of creating a playlist in iTunes of something like Jazz of the 50's, or Rock/Progressive Rock of the 1970's. Since I have discovered that the release date in iTunes is read only (Doug's Scripts for iTunes has this information), I was thinking of altering the Year to the correct value for Release Year, then putting something like "2012 REMASTERDATE" at the beginning of my comments field. I am using latest version of iTunes on iMac running Mountain Lion, my imported music files are in Apple Lossless format.

Ok, so I'm getting back into somewhat better sounding music after a 20 year layoff! I have been getting used cds and ripping them. I must say most of the "classic rock" I have ripped sounds pretty good. Out of the all the used cds I have, I have a "Best of the Doors cd", Not "The Very Best of the Doors" that was released 1985, and this cd sounds great to me! So I figured hey I'll get some more Doors cds, well I can't find any used locally, buy I did find one at walmart (in the clearance bin of course) "The Soft Parade". Well this cd sounds like sh#t!!! No Dynamic Range! 10 to 15db louder then the Best of Cd! (did not test just guessing). Ok, maybe I'm old school, but what is it with all the remastering trash! I get it that the new generation is into "louder is better", and hey I like Meshuggah and other bands with no dynamic range, but that's how they were recorded! or lets say mixed, mastered IN 2014 or what not! Not 45 years ago! Hey I know what your thinking! This Cd was only 5 dollars, but it's not worth 5 cents! I'm thinking of taking it off my computer, and I guess... throwing it away, and getting HdTracks, or something! On another note, I ripped Pink Floyd "The Division Bell" and it sounds Awesome! So glad I found it used... and not a Remaster! Here is a list of some of the new music I have had to get new, and my option: Linda Ronstadt "Best of 1, and 2" on one Cd (uk remaster) Sounds pretty good! The Allman Brothers "20th Century Master" Cd Sounds Pretty dam good! Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" Cd (Remaster) Sounds good! Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" Cd (Remaster) Sounds pretty good! Led Zeppelin "Led Zeppelin II" Cd (Remaster) Sounds like Sh#t! Black Sabbath "Black Sabbath" (HdTracks) Sounds Pretty dam good! Black Sabbath "Paranoid" Cd (From walmart 5 dollar Clearance bin) doesn't say remaster or what! Sound pretty good! I'm not saying all Remasters are Trash, but if your going to make one at least make it better then the original! I have a Madonna Cd someone gave me (not much of a Madonna fan), and this thing sounds Awesome! it's the "Immaculate Collection" Released 1990 (Remaster). I don't know who remastered this, but my hat goes off to them! So Look, don't mess with my Doors, Led Zeppelin, and what have you... unless your going to make them sound better then the original! You might be able to fool this now generation! But you can't fool the generation this music was created in! Louder is not always better! I don't know who remastered some of these, and really don't care! So don't take this personally, but give me a Garage, the Master Tapes, Reaper, and a six pack of beer (and I don't even drink) and I'll give it my best shot! Gear I used: Fiio x3, Sennheiser HD449 (Not the best eq, but hey, I'm getting there)
