Hi fellow nerds:) We talk alot about linear power supplies, batteries, clocks etc. but what of the actual motherboard? I am currently using one of these as my main music / movie machine, with a Dexa neutron star clock, USB card with its own PSU and a Dexa D-Clock (took my PPA USB out as the one with the Dexa is better) and a battery based linear PSU of 12v/15A and a Pico PSU of 160W. MSI USA - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more Now, the quality of the PICO PSU and especially the quality of the on board regulators must also be of great importance as i see it. So would on of these with the same modifications (clock psu usb) be a better choice and furthermore make a noticeable difference? https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_IMPACT I am thinking of the complexity of the build in requlators and filtering. What other motherboards will you recommend?
Hi, Everywhere I read people's testimonies that music streamed through ethernet from a NAS sounds dull compared to playing it directly from an external HDD. Even when the player pre-loads the whole song to memory like Audirvana does. How can this be? Are there any plausible explanations for this? I'm building a new system and it would be nice to know if this is simply a myth or if there's some rational behind it and if someone has done some proper comparison tests. Thanks in advance, Nuno
ive always been a po boy but have developed a taste for at least not horrible audio equipment. were talking an asus xonar dgx and a qc3 (~$450). i thought this would sound pretty good. its unbearable. i dont even wear the headphones. motherboard is asus M4A88T-M. i've tried everything. i eventually completely reinstalled windows 7 to make sure there wasn't some other software causing the problem. the problem persists. so im on a clean install of 7 with new qc3's and a new xonar dgx. i'll have to wait till tomorrow to flash the bios to a newer version. i expect that to be of no help whatsoever. there is an echo. vocals in music are extremely quiet while banging tin canny guitars are overwhelming like blasting a cheap boom box from 1978. its bloody horrible. i can't hear it on a decent pair of desk speakers but on the qc3's it's very noticeable. any idea what could be causing this?
