genigo posted a topic in Music ServersIn this thread I describe “VerseTransoprt”, a Windows 8.1based DIY Music Server. This is a personal computer that is specifically built to be a music server that can co-exist on the equipment rack in the listening room. It aims to become a reference quality music server for playback of high-resolution and redbook digital music files based on the following requirements: 1. Silent, low heat, no vibrarion 2. Capable of “audiophile” sound 3. Easy to operate remotely (power on/off, music selection, music playback-next / previous / pause / resume / stop) 4. Easy to assemble and install 5. Size and look compatible to the rest hi-fi components on the rack 6. Capable to install a PCIe “audiophile’ class USB card for linking with the DAC 7. Motherboard, CPU, and SATA disks powered by an external linear power supply 8. Play 16, 24 bit /44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192 kHz bitperfect 9. Capable to tweak BIOS and OS for optimal music playback In the attached PDF document I provide extensive information regarding the s/w installation and all the relevant Windows 8.1 tweaks. After applying all the custom tweaks and the relevant JPLAY audio process priority, CPU affinity and hibernation, the music server is almost exclusively dedicated to music playback, esuring minimum latency and jitter. VerseTransport - Computer Based Music Transport - SW Installation Guide.pdf The aim is that the music server not only allows everyone to explore her/his music collection in new ways, bit it also has the potential of delivering better sound than the sound available from CDs i.e. music read from the hard-disk drive potentially sounds better than when read from an optical disc. Since some time I have been using - and enjoying thoroughly - minimserver/streamer on Synology DS214play in conjunction with Cambridge Audio 851n. More recently I did discover the minimstreamer radio features. I then tried to route from minimstreamer radio to 851n, alas to no avail. I have tried several settings with several radio stations - all are well rendered when streaming is triggered directly by 851n - but have not yet managed to stream radio from minimstreamer (or other Synology packages) to 851n. I have attached copies of: - m3u files used for testing - logs from minimstreamer - screenshots of the minimserver system and package tabs radio from minimstreamer to 851N.zip From minimstreamer support forum i understood that: - 851n is trying to play the radio stream send by minimstreamer as if it were a disk file by reading portions of the stream instead of reading the stream continuously from start to end. - If radio streaming is triggered by 851n, 851n obviously knows it is dealing with a radio stream and presumably doesn't attempt to use byte-range requests. I thus concluded that 851n is engineered to manage incoming streams solely as byte-range requests - that is unless radio stream is triggered by 851n himself. Is this deduction correct? Are other people experiencing the same issue with 851n or other Cambridge Audio equipment? What is the experience in the community for streaming radio to 851n? Many thanks in advance for your support Eric PS I have asked Cambridge about one week ago for their support however no response yet and will keep posted here what results from the thread with Cambridge support
Hi, I just installed minimserver in my Synology NAS 216play. My config is minimserver in NAS -> USB -> DAC. No additional hardware streamer like computer to DAC. I downloaded the control point BubbleUPnP in my android. I can see the albums. However, I cannot play them. What else I need to setup? I am OK to listen music using synology DS audio, but the quality is not good. I don't know how to config minimserver so that I can output music (whatever formats, wav, flac, dsf) thru USB to DAC. Don't know which uPnP apps I can use in my android phone too. I tried BubbleDS Next, BubbleUPnP, Kinsky.....all can only browse minimserver's album list, but cannot select the DAC as the output device. As in the app, my DAC is not in the list.....just my AV amp/my phone are in the list for song output. Can anymore share the experience on using minimserver on NAS->USB->DAC setup?
