  1. Noise!

Hi all, I'm aware there have been other threads on this but have already tried other 'solutions' but to no avail so I thought I'd start my own thread specific to me. I'm getting noise coming through my speakers and I think it must be EMI/RFI as the noise is related to activities like moving my mouse. My PC is custom built with a very small case, which I fear might be the problem with all the components packed close together but I could be wrong of course. See parts list here. My DAC is an Arcam rPAC and I have an unbalanced passive volume control between the rPAC and my speakers (KRK VXT6 monitors w. KRK 10s sub). All I have connected to the PC is a keyboard, mouse, webcam and the DAC of course. The noise seems to be worst when the passive volume control is around the middle for some reason. After doing my own research, I think getting a USB isolator might be the best choice but before buying it, I'd appreciate anyone's input who has had experience with these! Pretty simple set up. Hopefully someone can help me out
  2. Another in the laudable series of EMI 96/24 remasters of its older catalog material. This is a 1965 recording with Otto Klemperer, the New Philharmonia Orchestra, and various soloists. Downloaded from HDtracks. Perhaps not quite as 'classic' a recording as his Brahms German Requiem is, it's nevertheless very worthy. The graphs look good! Russell
  3. And here we have one of the greatest recordings ever made of Mahler's late masterwork, with the incomparable Fritz Wunderlich and lustrous Christa Ludwig as soloists, Otto Klemperer conducting. Recorded in the early/mid 1960's, this is another EMI 96/24 remaster, downloaded from HDtracks. The EMI 'Great Recordings of the Century' RBCD already sounded wonderful; this should be even better! Russell
  4. This is the classic, monumental 1961 recording of Brahms's 'Ein deutsches Requiem' with Otto Klemperer and the Philharmonia Orchestra & Chorus on EMI, part of that label's recent batch of 96/24 remasterings of its back catalog. Downloaded from HDtracks. The graphs here (of the 2nd movement) look great, and they show that even 50-year-old analog tapes have a good deal of dynamics and frequency extension. Russell
  5. One of my favorite recordings of Tchaikovsky's complete 'Nutcracker' ballet--the 1972 EMI with Andre Previn and the LSO--has just appeared on HDtracks. This is another of EMI's recent hi-res remasterings of older catalog material for SACD release (though this particular recording hasn't been released yet on SACD outside of Japan). Looks like EMI did a good job here! Russell
