Because of a card/account glitch I had to sign backup through SONOS for Deezer Elite. They offered me a year for a good deal instead of monthly rate. I took it. I noticed that after a year my rate jumps by %25. I suppose this is due to the recent changes in royalties. I know Paradise Radio has gotten much more aggressive funding request as well. The original rate of 15$/month was about my limit. Gonna be interesting to see what my attitude is when my introductory offer ends and the rate jumps. I like DEEZER Elite. jbuhl

Edit: I think my original post was too long so will try simpler shorter question Hi all, I am wondering if streaming Tidal through Chromecast Audio will pass through an unaltered signal to a DAC through TOSLINK. Chromecast specs state support for hi res streams at 24bit/96khz and Tidal page states MQA streaming at 24bit/96khz so on the surface this seems like an adequate way to get tidal Hifi to my stereo, or am I missing something?

I have noticed on some of my Deezer listening sessions it sounds like the source is Vinyl. I can hears the needle drop. Then on Gnarls Barkley hit sounds like the song Transformer is playing at 45 speed. LOL. Can anyone please verify this? Maybe I just smoked to much of this potent CO green.

I am putting together a system for listening to Deezer or Tidal streaming flac and possibly MQA. My budget is $2,000 and am considering a Bluesound Node 2, Rega Brio amp and SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers. That's $500 over my budget so really can't spend more than that. My listening space will be mostly a seating area that occupies about a third of a 27' x 20' room that is a combination kitchen-dining-living room. There's no carpet and a plastic laminate floor with a lot of glass plus some, not a lot, of stuffed furniture and drapery so am trying to stay away from overly bright equipment. There's a tenant underneath so am not looking for high volume or strong base so am not planning on a sub woofer. My wife and I listen to all kinds of music. I am kind of rolling the dice here since I live on Maui and can't audition equipment before I buy...and I am a noobie at this so...I would really appreciate any advice that I can get. Thanks.

Former Interscope chairman and Apple Music head Jimmy Iovine says streaming services are too similar: http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-43515185 I wonder if he'd view "sound quality" as a valid differentiator.

Have begun trial subs to both Deezer Elite and Tidal. Would prefer to choose just one to pay for. Initial impressions for me are that Tidal sounds a bit better. Not leaps and bounds, but a bit more spacious. Also has more articulated bass. Catalog differences may be the deciding factor, though. Both have large gaps in their offerings, and not the same titles. Anyone else beating these two up?

This is interesting: TIDAL · High Fidelity Test I'm a TIDAL subscriber and have been satisfied with the quality of most recordings. I'm using the Mac desktop app on a dedicated Mac Mini music server piped through the AYRE QB9 DSD DAC. Much prefer TIDAL to Deezer Elite as I've found many Deezer sound files are still in MP3. Unfortunately the Deezer catalog is much more extensive than Tidal's at the moment. Hope that changes soon or it will be hard to justify $20/month.
