  1. Any recommendations for the best sub $300 DAC? I'm looking for something that must have both USB and optical so that I can use it either straight out of a computer (Mac) or through the optical output of an Apple TV (3rd get) or Airport Express. I'm looking for something detailed, full, but non fatiguing. Perhaps something too much to ask for in a sub $300 DAC? I have an original Schiit Modi, which I find a bit too sharp on the high end and mine is optical out only. The Peachtree DACItx seems to be a decent option at $300, but was curious if there is anything that competes with it at that price point or even lower? I'm playing primarily Redbook, and sometimes even lower (Pandora, Mixcloud, etc...) so I'd like it to be somewhat forgiving too. I don't have, nor foresee purchasing much HD audio. Is up sampling something worthwhile to look for in a DAC, or just keep it at Redbook?
  2. So I jumped into computer audio but I have some questions that some of you might be able to answer...? I currently have an iMac (2012) with a Peachtree DACIT. The computer is in my family room while my Audio Gear is in my living room. Running a cable from the computer to DACIT would be around 25'. I believe that's too long for USB...? So I learned that my iMac has a dual audio output. Meaning if I put in a mini toslink adapter in my 1/8" audio jack I can run an optical cable to my DAC. Would this be a good idea or bad idea? Seems to easy...? I want the best sound possible! Any advice you can give I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
  3. I recently purchased a Panasonic TV and was pretty unhappy to realize that the two DACs i recently purchased are incapable of decoding a Dolby Digital Signal and unfortunately this TV does not allow me to control the optical terminal output. I don't understand why a dolby decoder wouldn't be standard on any 2012 Dac. Any ideas?
