Hello all! I'm new in the world of RB Pi DAC's and I'm looking now to buy an Allo Boss 1.2 for my RB Pi 3 B+. But my final objective is that the Allo Boss 1.2 will not be only the DAC for the contents passed by the RB Pi, but also that the DAC could receive HD digital signals (24/192 minimum) from external sources (an external PC for example) via SPDIF Toslink and/or coaxial. So, could you recommend me any other board that can provide to the Allo Boss 1.2 the Toslink/coaxial inputs it doesn't have? The ideal would be a card that can be stacked with the Boss using, ideally, the GPIO, without need to solder anything (I'm not a solder expert :-). Also, if the approrpiate board exiss, I'm worried about the drivers to manage the combination, given I'm using Raspbian with JRiver Media Center 25 as content manager. Thanks for your help and support. Best, Manuel.

Hi! I have the original Boss (ver.1) powered via Raspberry Pi 3b using a wall-wart. I would like to power the dac independently via the J4 connector using AA or other batteries. An Allo pdf file (attached) shows images of some resistor to be assembled (removed?) but offers no other instructions on procedure or equipment needed to do this. The method appears complicated - is there a simpler way? I have limited electronics experience and need help on how to do this. Can you provide the required instructions and also equipment i.e. wires, battery pack, etc? Thanks. Boss-5V-External-Power.pdf

I have an Allo Boss DAC 1.2 installed on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ running Moode 4.3. 1) If I have J25 installed and power the DAC and Pi from a single 5V power supply, music plays, all works. On the Boss DAC, both the power LED and LED1 light up (green). 2) If I remove J25 and use two 5V DC power supplies, one to the Boss DAC USB-C and the other to the RPi3B+ USB Micro-B, it seems the DAC does not work. Only the power LED lights up, but LED1 remains dark no matter what. When I try to play a music file, I get this error: MPD errorFailed to open "ALSA default" [alsa]Failed to open ALSA device "hw0,0" Nosuch file or directory It appears the DAC is not working with J25 removed. What could be causing this? HI I just got allo boss kit with RPi and 5v adaptor then I setup volumio it work correctly but after I connected to amplifier there are loud noise so I cant even use it. please suggest me how to fix it. What I have done. (but noise still noticeable.) - Reboot RPi - Connect power adaptor between c-type(BOSS) and micro(RPi) - disassemble and reassemble it again. PS. I have another RPi connected to USB DAC and plugged into this amplifier has no noise at all. Thank you

Has anybody else have the same configuration that works on WiFi? Running either Dietpi with squeezeplay or Volumio yields same result. WiFi works fine without Allo Boss card. With Allo Boss DAC on top WiFi no longer connects UNLESS I have Ethernet also plugged in and connected. This is the weird part, with Boss I can ssh via Ethernet. I can also ssh Pi from WiFi IP. Remove Ethernet cable and WiFi stops leaving Pi unreachable. After days of trying everything it became apparent this is hardware related. Today I removed the power jumper from the Boss board and used 2 power supplies, one for Pi, one for Boss. WiFi will then connect only if I power up Pi first. If I power up at the same time or power Boss first then no WiFi. When I do get WiFi the OS turns off audio and squeezeplay wont run because it wont load the Boss drivers presumably. Manually forcing the OS in Dietpi to use the Boss kills WiFi again. Infuriating how much time I have wasted with this straight out the box. Squeezeplay works fine with no Boss card and Pi onboard audio. This is with a fresh image of Dietpi which I have also reflashed several times to start form scratch. Also could there be some conflict in resources between WiFi and Boss driver? Have I got a faulty Boss board? Has anyone else out there got this setup that works? BTW, I am also using Allo relay attenuator, which has been removed until the Boss works. Also using standard Allo 5v 3A power supply. Have tried another known good power supply.

Hello, In my combination of RPI 3B+, BOSS v1.2 & VOLT a low buzzing can be heard. I use the certified RPI power supply for both RPI and BOSS, and a 19V /65W notebook PSU from HP. The buzzing doesn´t increase when volume is iscreased. Has anybody discovered this as well? Any clue where it comes from? Cheers, AnnaBlume

Hello, I am looking to build the system described above. It's the official Raspberry Pi 7 inch touchscreen. I'm not clear on the best way to power it up. Will a 3 amp power supply be sufficient? I hear that the touchscreen is kind of power hungry. cheers, Marc
