About Me

  1. AURALiC Polaris Wireless Streaming Amplifier ($3799) “POLARIS defines the AURALiC brand: innovative technology, great sound, superb user experience, and excellent value. It is a wireless streamer, a music server, a DAC, a pre-amplifier and a stereo power amplifier – the ultimate solution for music lovers seeking high quality streaming from a single, compact audio component” The POLARIS offers seventeen inputs channels comprising streaming, digital and analog sources. The internal DAC, incorporating AURALiC Flexible Filters and Femto Master Clock, supports Quad-Rate DSDand PCM up to 32Bit/384K. The powerful internal stereo amplifier module can deliver 120 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 180 watts per channel into 4 ohms continuous power with exceptionally low distortion- sufficient for the most demanding loudspeakers. The internal DAC, incorporating AURALiC Flexible Filters and Femto Master Clock, supports Quad-Rate DSD and PCM up to 32Bit/384K. The powerful internal stereo amplifier module can deliver 120 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 180 watts per channel into 4 ohms continues power with exceptionally low distortion- sufficient for the most demanding loudspeakers. POLARIS utilizes AURALiC’s award-winning Lightning Streaming Platform. Launched in 2014, Lightning Streaming is industry’s first streaming solution that supports Quad-Rate DSD, PCM up to 32Bit/384K through Wi-Fi network. Lightning Streaming offers several innovative and unique features such as Gapless Playback, On-Device Playlist, Memory Cache and Bit-Perfect Multi-Room functions. This on-going platform is maintained, and continually developed by AURALiC’s in-house software R&D team to ensure customers are regularly updated with new features through the product’s automatic software update system. The products streaming function is operated by AURALiC’s Lightning DS control App which is at the heart of all the companies streaming products and available on iOS platforms, with Mac and Windows versions in development. It is also compatible with other third-party OpenHome or UPnP control software for playback and also works as a RoonReady endpoint to use with Roon software, bringing you an alternative way in which to discover and listen to music. AURALiC is introducing another innovative technology: Hybrid Volume Control for POLARIS. The Hybrid Volume Control uses both analog and digital volume control together for optimum audio performance and the best possible sound quality. The analog attenuators reduce the signal level in 12dB steps whilst the DAC's internal digital volume control handles small amounts of volume change within each step. By using this technology, the DAC chip always operates in the best performance range, bringing much lower distortion, better dynamic range and high sound quality at low volume levels. POLARIS is equipped with two pairs of multi-function RCA connectors - these two stereo pairs of analog channels can be configured as a phono stage input, a line stage input or pre-amplifier output through the product settings menu. Digital inputs include AES/EBU, Coaxial, Toslink and a USB connection to a computer working as a standalone USB DAC. When purchasing POLARIS, you can specify a 1TB SSD for internal music storage as an option at extra cost, turning POLARIS into a fully functioning Music Server. To purchase, arrange for a home trial or for more info click here
  2. My Auralic Aries Mini is connected via USB to my Chord Mojo. This gets me the highest bitrate capability and sounds excellent. Better in fact than the built-in 9018K2. I'd like to know what output method (Coax, Optical, USB) you use and why?
  3. ATTENTION AURALIC This is directed to everyone considering products from the Auralic range. I recently purchased the Mini. It's one of the best pieces I've got in recent times. I have been into high end HiFi gear for many years and know quality like the back of my hand. For what it is I must say it's noting less then out standing, the DS app is flawless however the purpose of this note is to advise possible future owners of Auralic that you when you purchase a product that holds the Auralic brand you are not only purchasing something that works wonderfully as intended to without glitches, beautifully constructed and suited to the most of styled homes, software up dateable for the obvious, well priced, in fact hard to be price cost vs value I believe. BUT you get customer service. As I was setting up I required assistance many times, I can tell you Auralic is the best company I have dealt with for HIFI. The attention to detail in order to resolve problems is second to none. You deal with prompt, educated persons that take the time ensuring all bumps are quickly ironed. This is not about me, what I own etc this is my 100% genuine recommendation of Auralic as a Brand customer service I have been dealing with Christian from the EU and because of his attitude and detailed support I have 100% faith in the company and there for I recommend Auralic to all of my interested family and friends. If you are in the market for one of their products and are considering a competing brand I can assure you that you will be happy+ with the SQ, function, features, style and the customer service. I can not speak highly enough when recommending Auralic. By the way I have no financial connection to Auralic in any way shape or form nor have I ever met Christian from the EU in person. 6. Auralic Taurus MKII Balanced Headphone Amp(Sale Price $1329, reg retail $1899) SALE - SAVE $480 on the $1899 Retail Price From Now Until January 31st Begins from the pursuit of an extraordinary amplifier that can well match with modern top quality headphones, inspired by the soul of Rupert Neve's legendary design philosophy, bearing with modern simplism style appearance, TAURUS MKII is born with a perfect coalescence of classic and pop elements. The smooth, rich and detailed voice of TAURUS MKII is a succession of AURALiC’s elegant and graceful aesthetic taste. Referring to Neve analog console’s circuit design, AURALiC invent the ORFEO Class-A output module and fit them into TAURUS MKII. The ORFEO module offers great driving ability by delivers 1000mW (600ohm) to 4500mW (32ohm) power into various loads; this allows TAURUS MKII to squeeze out every headphone’s capabilities, unfold the beauty of their unique sonic style. Resorting to the ultra low noise input buffer tailored by AURALiC, TAURUS MKII has a wide dynamic range greater than 130dB while maintains the output noise less than 5uV. With such astonishing performance, TAURUS is able to capture the most tiny music expression coming from the source component. The TAURUS MKII builds on the design of the original award-winning TAURUS, launched in 2010, by concentrating all surface-mounted components in an audio signal patch. It also increased the TAURUS’ EMI shielding, reducing noise from the input buffer to 0.8uV, less than half the level of the original. Additionally, AURALiC improved the input switch circuit to increase the isolation among different input channels, which boosts performance when the TAURUS MKII is connected to multiple sources. Smoothed music expression, sophisticated circuit design and brilliant appearance; TAURUS MKII is another exemplary works designed by AURALiC. 7. Auralic Vega DAC (SALE $2499, reg retail $3499) From Now Until Januray 31st Save $1000 + Receive FREE CARDAS CLEAR USB Cable ($160 value) or 25% off ROON SOFTWARE with purchase "The $3,500 Auralic Vega digital to analog converter is quite possibly the best DAC I've heard at this price." - Chris Connaker, The Computer Audiophile VEGA, the next generation digital audio processor, is developed with the goal of 'seeking for non-compromised sound'. With plenty of I/O ports and powerful function, it will become the kernel component of your high-end stereo system. With Sanctuary Audio Processor as heart, AURALiC introduces several cutting-edge technology for VEGA: Megahertz upsampling algorithm up-samples all PCM music to 1.5MHz in 32bit; Femto Master Clock provides an ultimate clock precision with jitter only 82 femtoseconds (0.082 picosecond). Binding with other AURALiC's patented technologies such as 'ORFEO Class-A module' and discrete 'Purer-Power™ solution', VEGA will bring high resolution music playback experience to climax. VEGA supports all high resolution music formats including DXD (352.8KS/s, 384KS/s in 32bit) as well as DSD stream at 2.8MHz (DSD64), 5.6MHz (DSD128) and 11.2MHz (DSD256). Five digital inputs include AES/EBU, coaxial(set of two), toslink and USB. The balanced and single-ended analog outputs can connect to power amplifier directly, adjusting volume in digital precision without dynamic loss. Features AURALiC Sanctuary Audio Processor Sanctuary audio processor, the heart of VEGA, is based on multi-core ARM9 architecture with calculating capability at 1000MIPS which is ideal for handling multi-channel high resolution music. AURALiC also introduces the second generation ActiveUSB ™ to VEGA that separates the USB PHY into a discrete chip to future reduce EMI from computer. Resorting to these technologies, VEGA not only support DXD format (352.8KS/s and 384KS/s PCM signal in 32bit) but also able to decode DSD stream at 2.8MHz (DSD64), 5.6MHz (DSD128) and 11.2MHz (DSD256) natively though 'DoPV1.1' transmission standard. Flexible Filter Mode The Flexible Filter Mode technology inside VEGA has six built-in modes each contains several digital filters optimized for corresponding sampling rate. These filters are developed under AURALiC's subjective auditory sense and objective testing data relationship models which is to optimize the listening experience for different music and format. The linear phase filter exhibits perfect in-band ripple and out-band attenuation performance while the minimum phase filter is better for enjoyment as it has no 'pre-ringing' effect. There are also slow roll-off filter and several noise filters for native DSD conversion. To maximum usage of these filters, VEGA allows its user to customize according to different formats, tuning sound best to personal preference. Please download the technical white paper of Flexible Filter Mode for detailed information. Femto Master Clock The objective of Femto Master Clock technology is to give DAC and upsampling circuit an ultimate clock with extremely low jitter and low phase noise. It utilizes aerospace grade crystal oscillator, ultra low noise linear power supply and temperature compensation technology to generate master clock with extremely low jitter at 82 femtoseconds. What's more important, the phase noise which affect sound quality a lot has been dramatically reduced to -168dBc/Hz. VEGA has three level of clock precision for customer to choose, with the highest grade 'EXACT' mode, it will give the purest reference clock. Driving by such amazing clock, VEGA can easily reproduce the music details in the 'last bit', represent a rock solid stereo image you may never experience before. Megahertz Upsampling Using latest ground breaking algorithm, Megahertz Upsampling technology process and up-sampling all incoming PCM signal to about 1.5MHz in 32bit depth. These not only improve the precision of DAC, but also create a new Nyquist frequency for all PCM signal which farther away from the top end of audio frequency. As a result, our engineers are able to design a brand new analog circuit structure with more bandwidth and faster slew rate. Comparing to previous design, the new structure is more transparent to audio signal with lower distortion and less noise, it also lets red book CDs sound more rich and smooth. AURALiC ORFEO Class-A Output Module In order to drive various loads, matching different power amplifiers, VEGA is powered with AURALiC's patented ORFEO Class-A module which is inspired by Neve8078 analog console’s circuit design as the output stage. The principle of this module is to use a mass of small signal components with best linear characteristic. By packing them though a thermal balance procedure and bias the transistors into Class-A, ORFEO achieves impressive performance with open loop distortion less than 0.001%. The ORFEO module used in VEGA has been selected and tweaked for lower noise while maintains its driving capability for600ohm load without any distortion raise. 8. This week I installed iOS 10.1 on my iPhone and iPad. Call me an idiot, but when firmware upgrades present itself, I'm always hitting the install button. This morning I want to start listening on my Auralic Aries from an Apple Music from my iPad, using AirPlay, and somehow the Aries doesn't appear anymore on my iPad as AirPlay playback device. Checking the same on my iPhone, and also there, the Aries is not appearing. Could it be that iOS 10.1 again changed something in the Airplay implementation, causing the Aries not to be compatible anymore? Does anyone else have this problem? Firmware installed on my Aries is also the latest one, version 4.0 I believe.

  11. I'll be streaming over ethernet from a Win10/JRMC PC running 24/7 in another room. The amp & speakers aren't an issue. The controller will be an iPad Air. All that's needed are streamer & DAC. I've narrowed it down to one of the following: 1. Aries Mini > Wired4Sound Recovery > Emotiva DC-1 > (Amp/Speakers) or 2. Cambridge Audio CXN (streamer, dac, pre) > (Amp/Speakers) #2 is cleaner and, as an added bonus, it's $200 less. Any thoughts?
  12. Just bought a new Auralic Altair to replace my Marantz NA8005 which was always acting up, dropping off my network, etc. I was hoping I put my electronics issues behind me. Nope. Problem one: There are no discrete on/off IR power codes for the Altair. Only a power toggle. Means powering it on with my Harmony remote is a crapshoot and I'll just as often be turning it off when I need to turn it on based on whatever state it happens to be in in the moment. The Marantz had the same problems, but the Altair costs twice as much and is clearly marketed as audiophile gear. Discrete codes should be a minimum for gear in this price range. I'm disappointed, but it's ok. I'll live. Problem two, the main one: The power toggle code on the Auralic remote is the exact same one as for my Marantz AV8801! Thus toggling the power for my Altair toggles the power on my pre/pro. Are you kidding me!? Did nobody test this out first at Auralic? Basically this means that if I watch some TV then turn on my Altair, the pre/pro gets turned off by the same command. This is insane. It means I have to leave my Altair on 24/7 and if the power goes out I can't rely on the remote to turn it back on (as it will affect the 8801 as well). Come. On.
  13. Dear all, I have my an Ultrarendu powered by an Sbooster power supply connected through USB to an Auralic VEGA. I'm currently switching between the Roon and the MPD/DLNA mode for use with Audirvana, just to experiment a bit. Everything works very well, with a mac Mini used to host Roon and Audirvana. Nevertheless, when I connect my VEGA directly to my mac using USB (Carbon from Audioquest) and using Audirvana, I can honestly say that the sound is not bad at all, and I sometimes have a more 'transparent' sound, by lack of a better word. More "headspace", if you will. As such, while the sound using Ultrarendu is of course very good, I feel that the extra cost of the Ultrarendu and power supply have not lead to a clear upgrade in sound quality. The sound is different, but not necessarily better. All is going through wired ethernet of course. Given the almost universally good reviews of the Ultrarendu, I must ask: am I doing something wrong? Or is it maybe that the VEGA has very good jitter correction built in, surpassing the benefits of the Ultrarendu (does not seem likely)? Any comments are appreciated! Rodrigo
  14. Hello everyone. I am in research for a streamer or network audio player. Expectations: - it can read mp3, flac and DSD from NAS (network attached storage, in my case Synology DS212j) and USB memory stick - it should transport digital signal (via SPDIF or USB) to external DAC - reliable while operating - price of the player should be within 1500€ (linear power supply included) - I don't want solutions that need external display (e.g. computer monitor). It should be HiFi device that can be turned on via button Advantage: - dedicated mobile application, and not just web control interface - AirPlay - Internet radio - streaming services Current candidates: - Sonore microRendu - no dedicated application. 640 $ + linear power supply. - Sonore ultraRendu - no dedicated application. They say at several forums that this model is better than its predecessor. 875 $ + linear power supply - SOtM sMS-200 - no dedicated application, didn't hear it. 450 $ + linear power supply - SOtM sMS-200ultra - no dedicated application. They say at several forums that this model is better than its predecessor. 1200 $ + linear power supply - Auralic Aries Mini - dedicated application. AirPlay + internet radio. 550€ + linear power supply - Auralic Aries LE - dedicated application. AirPlay + internet radio. I heard there are several problems with the stability caused by network problems. 1000€ + linear power supply - Auralic Aries - dedicated application. AirPlay + internet radio. I heard several problems with the stability caused by network problems. I do not know the price. - Bluesound Node 2 - dedicated application, Airplay, internet radio. No DSD support. 600€. - Electrocompaniet Rena S1 - dedicated application, Airplay, internet radio. 600€. - Onkyo NS-6170 - dedicated application, Airplay, internet radio. 350€. I heard only Sonore microRendu which had great sound for me. There are not candidates: - Raspberry Pi - there is no customized version of the HiFi I just buy, without having to do anything, put together, buy separately etc. that is sonically good enough for my system. Correct me if I'm wrong. - Aurender - great equipment but out of the price category. - dCS Network Bridge - great equipment, but out of the price category. Questions - do you have candidates to add to this list? - did you ever heard one of this candidates or can you compare it? It is own hearing experience that is most relevant to me, not reviews from 3rd sources. - if there is perfect or near-perfect process of comparing different streamers, what would it be? I noticed there are no such information available publicly. Many thanks!
  15. I am at the point where DAC and Server are the most important things to upgrade up to the same level of my Preamp, amp and speakers, i have just tried the Bricasti M5 which worked as a streamer from my MacMini, although the sound improved it was just a notch, at the same time the M5 arrived also a pair of Tellurium Ultra Black XLR's which made the bigger improvement over the M5, go figure, so i returned the M5 cause i don't think 2,000 usd were worth the little extra improvement, the same thing happened when i put a Microrendu more than one year ago, with lesser speakers i never found an improvement over my Mac mini. So now by these findings i am guessing a better DAC would do the upgrade iam looking for and from there perhaps a server/streamer like the Zenith MKII or viceversa My actual server streamer is a Mac mini Server will be a Zenith MKII My actual DAC is the OPPO 205 I am interested on these DACS: Yggy VEGA G2 PS Junior DENAFRIPS Terminator So far price/performance wise, YGGY is the Schiit, but would going an extra 2,000 usd (aprox) over Yggy would worth to find a sound wise improvement with the other DACs mentioned here?

A dual stage mains filter and an earth line choke clean the current from high frequency pollution before the current reaches the transformer. The transformer is a custom-made audio grade transformer with electrostatic shielding. The electronic design allows for up to 50% more output out of the used electronics and consumes even up to 35% less energy than a conventional design. Even though it provides a significant boost in available power, the BOTW P&P ECO audiophile power supply is so efficient that it consumers only a fraction more of electricity than what a standard power does. ULTRA ACCESSORY The Sbooster Ultra Filter Accessory can be used as an addition to the many filtering and optimization techniques of the BOTW P&P ECO audiophile PSU and can only be used with the SBooster split-current module of the BOTW P&P ECO. The Ultra is based on active filter technique, which reduces the ripple & noise of the BOTW P&P ECO even further: to a negligible low level. The Ultra is designed for audio equipment that is highly sensitive to residual noise, such as digital to analog converters, music streamers, USB to SPDIF converters, headphone-, pre- and phono amplifiers. In addition to the active filter function, the Sbooster Ultra also re-stabilizes the output voltage to the correct voltage and because of the short cable length of the Sbooster Ultra, the highly purified powered is passed to your audio device with no performance loss . Main benefits of BOTW and Ultra Filter Accessory: Up to 50% more power to your amplification components Lower noise floor and blacker backgrounds to your digital components Improved musical rhythm and timing These products qualify for Free Shipping and 5% back in points when you register for Club Ciamara Membership Rewards Program 1.844.CIAMARA (1.844.242.6272) High End Audio Store NYC - Experience Ciamara
  21. Hey guys, Since I am new here and this is my first post I hope you bear with me. I have been reading this forum many times and figured I should finally register and get some advice and hopefully also contribute to something. In my quest of finding out what I could do to improve the sound quality of my system I have been reading and googling a lot this weekend. At first I was almost confident it would be Amarra Symphony 3 with IRC and Amarra SQ. My living room is open planned, lots of windows and tiled floor. This is where I have my setup, even though I know it is not the best room in acoustic sense. This is why I was tempted in reducing the negative effects with digital room correction. But then I found out about Auralic Aries, so I started to read everything I could find. Even though it was a lot of great info by you guys (thanks!) it kind of only made me less certain on where to go next. Let me start with my setup: Mac Mini (Non modified i7 from 2011 with 2xSSD) –> USB cable -> MSB The Analogue DAC (with upgraded power base) –> RCA cables -> Nagra VPA –> Marten Django XL I use WiMP HiFi on the Mac Mini often on AirPlay (via AirServer) and I have 1000+ albums in iTunes from CD Quality to DSD played with the help of Amarra or Audirvana. I guess that I should add that the Mac Mini also doubles as a media central a couple of times a week. A few scenarios: 1. Get a Auralic Aries and keep the rest as it is 2. Upgrade my Mac Mini with linear PSU (or just get something new like CAPS?) and also get Amarra Symphony 3 with IRC or similar. 3. Get that new "MSB Network Renderer" for my DAC and use the Mac Mini as a server (?) 4. Something else entirely or partially I will be really happy for just about any feedback. Everything from hunches to expert knowledge.
  22. Starting this thread for people (like me) wanting to extract the best possible SQ from their dedicated music streamer set-up; particularly the Auralic Aires, which is discussed at; http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f22-networking-networked-audio-and-streaming/auralic-aries-hardware-impressions-and-information-21261/ but this thread is specific to sound quality tweaks and comparisons; e.g. USB input vs. network, wifi vs. LAN, SSD vs. HDD, linear PSUs, cables, whatever. Observations with other dedicated streamers/renderers are relevant but this is not about PC-based solutions. Thanks in advance
  23. Hello everybody! Recently I bought the US unit but as far as I live in the 220v country I need to convert the unit to the correct voltage. Is there anyone who has done this before? Could you please help me here? I have an experience converting the Aries if needed so I can guide anyone. An Auralic's support turned on the 'Robot mode' repeating that there is no user-servisable parts in their product...

To maximum usage of these filters, VEGA lets you customize according to different formats, tuning sound best to personal preference. The VEGA also has the Femto Master Clock. This gives the DAC and Up-Sampling circuit an ultimate clock with minimized jitter and low phase noise. It utilizes a crystal oscillator that is aerospace quality, and generates a master clock with extremely low jitter at 82 femtoseconds by also using an ultra-low noise linear power supply and temperature compensation technology. Recommended 50% off ROON offers* Luxman DA-06 DAC “The music made by the Luxman DA-06 is rich, resolute, refined, and oh so smooth. Regardless of my music’s pedigree, I found myself enjoying entire album’s worth upon album’s worth, getting sucked into their sounds and moods to the point of being completely lost in tunes. I cannot think of a higher compliment to pay a piece of hi-fi gear.” - Michael Lavorgna, Audiostream June 2013 (Full Review here) Luxman’s DA-06 DAC is one fine piece of gear and one of the most musical we offer at any price. Advancing the state of the art, the Luxman DA-06 can handle up to 24/192 though its AES and S/PDIF inputs, and up to 2x DSD via USB and there are user-selectable filters for both PCM and DSD. Digital inputs are upsampled and processed at 32/384 and there are USB, SPDIF, AES/EBU and Toslink inputs on the back. DSD files played back on the Luxman DA-06 have a musicality and fluidity that we rarely hear from digital playback ever before. Its smooth and rich presentation is never etched or harsh. We can listen to this piece for hours and hours without the slightest hint of listening fatigue. Bricasti M1 USB DAC “The Bricasti M1 USB DAC is a state-of-the-art design offering impeccable performance and a wide selection of digital reconstruction filters so that you can fine tune its performance to both your preference and the personality of your system.” - Frank Berryman, Ultra High End Review The Bricasti M1 digital to analog converter is a dual mono design; there are two completely isolated channels, each with its own dedicated linear power supply, D/A converter, DDS clocking, and analog circuitry. This design insures that analog cross talk is virtually non-existent, that the necessary power requirements for each channel are well met and isolated from each other and the digital processing is isolated, having its own power supply. With their twin DAC design, using the stereo ADI 1955 D/A converter in a mono configuration optimizes the dynamic range for each channel. The M1 also includes Bricasti's own proprietary filter technology, further opening new territory with what is achievable in a modern D/A reference. Recommended FREE ROON offers* Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC RS "The Berkeley Audio Alpha DAC Reference redefines what we can expect from digital playback" - Robert Harley, The Absolute Sound The Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Reference Series (RS) is easily one of the top performing DACs in todays very crowded market. Let’s face it, as good as hi-res files can sound, most of our collections are made up of standard Red Book (16/44.1) files. This is where this DAC shines above the rest. By using multiple filter options and ultra-low phase noise precision clocking, it has the ability to extract every last detail and nuance of the performance. EMM Labs DAC2X “The updated DAC2X may provide the best DSD playback I can remember hearing in my system, but it also shines with PCM as well." - Chris Connaker, computeraudiophile.com (Full Review Here) Re-introducing the EMM Labs DAC2X – built with the award winning reference technology in the XDS1. The DAC2X features the latest generation MDAT2™ up-converting DSP, MFAST™ jitter removal system, MCLK™ master clock and Ed Meitner’s hand built 5.6Mhz proprietary discrete dual differential D-to-A converters. MDAT2™ works by taking all digital audio (PCM and DSD) and does real-time transient filtering and up-conversion to 2xDSD (5.6Mhz/6.1Mhz) before being sent to Ed`s proprietary custom made 2xDSD (5.6Mhz/6.1Mhz) DACs (MDAC modules) for conversion to analog. *Please note that these special offers with Roon cannot be combined with any other offer.
