  1. You mean that electric guitar with some distortion effect (starting around 1:15)?

    HD Video watching. DVD? What?

    For me, on linux, the youtube player picks format 248 for video: webm/vp9 and 251 for audio: opus. Here's all that youtube provides for that video: ]$ youtube-dl -F https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUBU34RoJBU [youtube] cUBU34RoJBU: Downloading webpage [youtube] cUBU34RoJBU: Downloading video info webpage [info] Available formats for cUBU34RoJBU: format code extension resolution note 249 webm audio only DASH audio 62k , opus @ 50k, 2.53MiB 250 webm audio only DASH audio 88k , opus @ 70k, 3.37MiB 140 m4a audio only DASH audio 128k , m4a_dash container, mp4a.40.2@128k, 6.15MiB 171 webm audio only DASH audio 146k , vorbis@128k, 5.76MiB 251 webm audio only DASH audio 159k , opus @160k, 6.57MiB 278 webm 256x144 144p 109k , webm container, vp9, 30fps, video only, 4.63MiB 160 mp4 256x144 144p 112k , avc1.4d400c, 30fps, video only, 5.33MiB 242 webm 426x240 240p 254k , vp9, 30fps, video only, 9.77MiB 133 mp4 426x240 240p 256k , avc1.4d4015, 30fps, video only, 11.92MiB 243 webm 640x360 360p 463k , vp9, 30fps, video only, 18.13MiB 134 mp4 640x360 360p 553k , avc1.4d401e, 30fps, video only, 15.11MiB 244 webm 854x480 480p 827k , vp9, 30fps, video only, 32.35MiB 135 mp4 854x480 480p 1081k , avc1.4d401f, 30fps, video only, 30.40MiB 247 webm 1280x720 720p 1618k , vp9, 30fps, video only, 66.85MiB 136 mp4 1280x720 720p 1963k , avc1.4d401f, 30fps, video only, 57.91MiB 248 webm 1920x1080 1080p 2849k , vp9, 30fps, video only, 124.49MiB 137 mp4 1920x1080 1080p 3450k , avc1.640028, 30fps, video only, 108.63MiB 17 3gp 176x144 small , mp4v.20.3, mp4a.40.2@ 24k, 3.98MiB 36 3gp 320x180 small , mp4v.20.3, mp4a.40.2, 10.86MiB 18 mp4 640x360 medium , avc1.42001E, mp4a.40.2@ 96k, 27.56MiB (best)

Article: Why Can't Music Artists Do This?

Er... but soap opera effect exists also for genuine 60 fps recordings (I presume), so how is this the "filling in" algorithm fault?
  4. That DR 16 is probably from Dynamic Range DB which is calculated like this.

    Merits for HiRez

I don't know if "shift tool" in Audacity can work with sub-sample steps, I guess not, but you can always up-sample, e.g., 4x and move by 1, 2 or 3 samples and down-sample back:
  6. May it be their internal amp hiss?

    Everything sounds the same

Do you have any example of a case where some measurement says that 2 images should be indistinguishable to human eye and yet people can distinguish them due to their better pattern recognition?
  8. There is a table further down with some summary and one column there is "Percentage of Power Above 20 kHz".
  9. How should I interpret the fact that: converting 16/44 version to 24/96 and subtracting from the original 24/96 gives around 40-50 dB in the audible range while taking the original 24/96, converting to 16/44 and back, and subtracting from the original gives dead silence in the audible range? Is it that they are misaligned? Or that some different resampler was used to prepare the 16/44 version and I cannot just use sox to "revert" it exactly enough? (Or something else?)

16 bit files almost unlistenable now...

You can always add <96dB noise. It will reduce digital glare and make sound more analogue, cause you know, the steps are smoother now (at least some of them). /s Is it? Can't you take the best 24 bit recording you have, convert it to 16 bit and back again and compare in some ABX test? This should un-grey it I think.

    Null test 88.2/24 and 44.1/16

But youtube .opus does, up to 20 kHz, just FYI. And I don't know how it's with everybody else, but for me youtube usually plays opus version rather than aac.
  12. Which, not coincidentally, I guess, is a max length defined by USB standard: USB Cabling (wikipedia)
  13. I don't think anyone really cares what you perceive. It is your explanation for causes of perceived differences that people have problem with. Yeah, sure, that must be it 🙄

Are you saying that it still provides some features even when you are logged out? I don't know, I don't use Roon, but those answer seem to suggest otherwise: From Running Roon without WiFi or an Internet Connection: From CORE Functionality OFF LINE-aka No Internet:

From What happens with the lifetime subscribers if the company folds or is sold?: Question Answer So if that didn't change then technically even with lifetime subscription you are still renting. You only have a promise that you will own it if the company goes under. In another words, what's the difference? To me it is: does it work without internet connection or not?
