  1. Subwoofer Question?

I'll not make the mistake of buying cheap eBay subs again:-( The cable connections are just those spring loaded tabs for hold speaker wires. OK in themselves IF decent quality, but one broken already on FIRST use! Pressed tab with one finger to push speaker wire in.... Spring disappeared down into sub internals and clip fell off!!! Spring no doubt just waiting near PCB to create internal mains electrical short!
  2. Hi guys Just took a chance on a cheap (£95 GBP) subwoofer that seems to work ok on my system, which is; Optical data out of PC into SA-50 desk amp. Amp into sub only via ‘High Level In’ and ‘High Level Out’ (no Line-In or Line-Out on the little Amp) and on to Q-Acoustics 3010 speakers. The Q-Acoustic speaker specs state: 86dB, Rec Power: 15 - 75w, Crossover Frequency: 2.8kHz Frequency Response (+/- 3 dB): 68Hz - 22kHz, Nominal Impedance: 6ohm, Minimum Impedance: 6ohm However, the frequency adjuster on the sub shows 50-150 Hz Aside from just tweaking by listening, are there any numbers that should or shouldn’t work? I’m confused by the speakers stating 2800 Hz, while the sub doesn’t reach that. Should it?
  3. Sub-Woofer Connection Question

Looks like that amp doesn't have the optical input like mine. Do you think I'd miss it with my setup? My music is supplied to the amp/dac via the optical output of my PC.
  4. Sub-Woofer Connection Question

I have indeed, but at almost 3 times what i can afford right now, sadly its out of the question:-(
  5. Sub-Woofer Connection Question

    Small Q-Accoustics 3010 speakers https://www.qacoustics.co.uk/q-acoustics-3010-compact-bookshelf-speakers-pair.html apologies, I thought i'd listed these in 1st post.
  6. Sub-Woofer Connection Question

Are these subs likely to be as poor as the prices suggest? They're about all I can afford for now;-( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fenton-10-Active-Powered-Hi-Fi-Subwoofer-Home-Cinema-Bass-Bin-Speaker-200W/152703454727?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-HI-FI-HOME-CINEMA-ACTIVE-SUBWOOFER-SOUND-SYSTEM-150W-RMS-FRONTFIRE-BASS-SUB/201126494880?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200-WATT-ACTIVE-SUBWOOFER-8-BLACK-HOME-HIFI-CINEMA-BASS-SPEAKER-POWERED-SUB/152059311188?hash=item236770f454:g:REgAAOSw44BYf8LR
  7. Sub-Woofer Connection Question

Many thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it.
  8. Sub-Woofer Connection Question

Is this the type of input/output I need?
  9. Sub-Woofer Connection Question

Of course yes. Quite why I called them phono/rca is beyond me. The outputs are just using speaker wires with banana plugs. Is there a formula of any sort to establish what power sub is appropriate? The amp is rated at 50w per channel and the Q-Acoustic speakers are are rated the same at 50w rms and 6 ohms.
  10. I'm on a learning curve here, so please bear with me;-) Current setup is: Optical cable from PC to 'SMSL SA-50 Plus' amp/dac. Phono/RCA from there to Q-Accoustics speakers. I want to add a sub but the only outputs on the amp are the four phono outs to speakers. Can you guys please advise how to hook up a sub please? I'm assuming it must be an 'active' sub (not yet purchased) Thanks
  11. JRiver Question

Can JRiver be used to convert flac files to MP3 format?
  12. Thanks for all that. Much appreciated.
  13. Speaker Question?

    ok thanks
  14. Speaker Question?

Just bought a new pair of Q-Acoustic speakers. In the box are a couple of soft foam plugs, that I assume are for plugging the rear vents. What exactly should this achieve?
  15. Many thanks. What are your views on Foobar2000?
