  1. Does a DAC need a pre-amp

This is a stereophile review of a dcs Debussy. Obviously a great dac but their cheaper offering and he states there to be not much difference so really you could go without a 30k preamp. Pretty impressive The differences in sound between the Debussy into a preamplifier and the Debussy directly driving a power amplifier will depend on the preamp's transparency, dynamic capabilities, and overall quality. Sending signals directly to my Musical Fidelity Titan amp from the Debussy or through my reference preamp, a darTZeel NHB-18NS, I heard minimal differences. Given the darTZeel's price of $29,500, that's what you should expect. 2. Sonore microRendu

Yep I bought a black microrendu as part of the black Friday sale. Still haven't opened it yet
  3. Active Kef LS50

If you're only worried about the colour of the cables then there are a few products to sort that out. Expandable cable sleeving and there is wrap around too. Very cheap and pretty much comes in ever colour possible https://www.ebay.com.au/b/Braided-Cable-Sleeving-Cable-Guards/155057/bn_72172560
  4. +1 for Naim. The new unit atom etc range are incredible. Heard them with focal Sopra 2s and a few others and couldn't believe it.
  5. From Spotify Playlist to Roon and Tidal

There is an app for your phone called stamp that does it too
  6. https://www.caryaudio.com/products/dms-500-network-audio-player/ Not sure if it's an analogue pre but it sounded great as a pre even compared to a Cary integrated. It's on my radar.
  7. Active Kef LS50

Maybe try find a set of xd200 at a discounted price especially if you already have a uR. I've not lived with the active kefs but have heard both. Dyns sound amazing.
  8. 10 grand - what set up would you recommend?

http://www.sonore.us/signature-rendu-se.html https://www.smallgreencomputer.com/collections/audio-server/products/sonictransporter-i7-for-roon-1-3-dsp?variant=35324041615 Both one box though the sonore needs a pc or nas somewhere. Sonictransporter is on my list. I've heard some of the antipodes and innuos including the special edition. It's a seriously good thing though I'm not sure if it has the computing power of the sonictransporter if you think you'd like to up sample dsd or do room correction convolution in the future. No doubt the dcs would be great too.
  9. Sonore ultraDigtial

Yep understood. I2s is the superior connection method though yeah? I hope the industry goes this way. Maybe Ethernet between devices could be good too? Linn and Kef use Ethernet already. I'm no engineer or technical guru though so I'm just guessing.
  10. black Friday deals:

Looks like not all yanks are happy about it
  11. Sonore ultraDigtial

I hope this leads to a new i2s xxxxrendu product in the future. Hope more dacs are made with i2s inputs too.
  12. black Friday deals:

https://www.smallgreencomputer.com/collections/black-friday-deals Old link I think but small green computer/sonore are running them again. And for my fellow Aussie above Lifestylestore in Sydney are running a Black Friday sale for the whole weekend. I don't agree with it here either but I guess times they are a changin'
  13. Cary Audio DMS-500

That's all great news. Hopefully the 512 gets sorted in an update. Thank you very much for the reply.
  14. Cary Audio DMS-500

Looking at this myself as I've now heard it at 2 hifi shows. How has it compared to other dacs? Still clicks and pops? Roon works OK? Does it perform as a preamp? Thanks
