  1. ISO Regen Issue at "I" Switch Position

I have the same issue with the ISO Regen with the switch set at "ISO" that is with galvanic isolation activated. @Em2016 I remember you mentioning the issue on the PS Audio DS forum but didn't notice it so much then - it was powered by an iFi iPower 9V at that time - it is now powered by a LPS 1. It is getting irritating now and I have had to either restart my Auralic Aries and/or PS Audio Directstream DAC quite frequently for the USB connection to be seen again. I am going to try it with the switch in the "ON" position tomorrow ie. with galvanic isolation defeated to see if the problem persists. If the same thing happens then I am getting rid of the ISO Regen. if it doesn't and I still like the sound then I'll keep it but would advise anyone against buying one for use with the PS Audio Directstream if they wish to use galvanic isolation, one of the advertised virtues of the device. Certainly, the W4S Recovery I had before the ISO Regen didn't have this issue with the USB connection dropping frequently. While it may well be an issue with the Silenna chip, Uptone should have tested it thoroughly before rolling it out. After all, they are the manufacturers of the device. If it does indeed require a special grounding wire/ attachment to work with the galvanic isolation activated, said attachment should have been supplied with the ISO Regen rather than requiring further tweaking on the part of the user to render a supposedly "finished" product usable in their systems.

Actually I disagree. I am only interested in the device if it provides an improvement sonically to what I am currently using (safe to say that is the case for most of us). I am currently using an Aries via the USB output via a LPS 1 powered ISO Regen to my DAC. My DAC has an I2S input which I understand is better than USB. So I am only interested in the device if it is sonically better than what I currently have via a ISO Regen'd USB. I am not interested in SPDIF nor AES/EBU which the Aries already has as outputs. If comparisons unequivocally point to a better sound then I can jettison the ISO Regen and replace it with the Ultra Digital and a HDMI cable. I hope this clarifies where I am coming from. I'm not really interested in academic comparisons to other USB to SPDIF converters. I had considered the Singxer F1 but was told I would have to defeat the inbuilt linear power supply for it to sound at its best (which I think is silly).

So if one were to use it, there wouldn't be a need for an ISO Regen? ie. the chain would be Streamer -> USB cable or USPCB -> Ultra Digital -> HDMI cable -> DAC . Correct? Have you guys tested it and done a comparison in sonics vs an ISO Regen cleaned USB connection to a DAC?

@Cyrus Yes, the Cardas Clear HS is quite balanced with that midrange that they are famous for. My other cabling is mostly Cardas so it works out well. I haven't really tried anything else except for a short Curious Regen Link so I was looking for a comparison especially with the Audience which many like but costs more. I see you use a combination of Cardas and Audience SX. Which Triode Wire Labs do you use? I am trying out a Digital American on a source.
  5. Sonore ultraRendu

@Cyrus I am using a Cardas Clear HS and was wondering how you found the sonic characteristics of the others compare to it. The Clear HS is not reviewed much out here. Are you planning to try the Lush cable that many on this forum like?

Any thoughts on the Audience Au24 SE and Cardas Clear High Speed?
  7. DFF to DSF conversion

Tried it. It installs but when I hit either DFF to DSF in the bold type or in Send To, a black command prompt window appears and disappears very quickly. Nothing happens and I see no DSF files in the same directory. I guess it doesn't work. Why am I on Vista? I can't afford a new computer for now.
  8. DFF to DSF conversion

Hi I copied some DFF files to my Mac and am trying the 2manyrobots app. It mostly works except for a batch of files where it says it doesn't convert DST compressed files. Is there another option to do this? Also, once the files are in DSF, will they be automatically tagged from the track titles or do i need to use Yate to tag them? I do not have a DFF or DSF file player on my Mac so I cannot tell if they are tagged or not. Thanks
  9. DFF to DSF conversion

Bogi Sorry to revive this. I am in the same boat as the OP but am on Windows Vista. Does this version of the software work on Vista? Thanks
  10. Tagging DFF Files Split From ISO Using ISO2DSD

I am confused too. The majority of DFF files I had split, do show up in the Aries. However, they do not show up under Foobar. They used to as ISO files. The ones that do not show up in the Aries were named the same way but they just don't show up in either.
  11. Tagging DFF Files Split From ISO Using ISO2DSD

Thanks Ted Do you know if it works on Windows Vista? It says Windows 7 & 8.
  12. Tagging DFF Files Split From ISO Using ISO2DSD

Thanks guys. I didn't realise the Aries accepts DSF too. OK I do not have the ISO files anymore - that is too late. So for the split DFF files what software do you recommend to convert to DSF? Is there a difference in file sizes for DFF vs DSF files? For the majority of DFF files with tag data, am I better of reconverting them to DSF files since there is no loss in sound quality on the conversion? In future, I will just split the ISO into DSF - my mistake as I am a newby with DSD.
  13. I have recently been splitting many ISO files into their constituent DFF files using Sonore's ISO2DSD app as my streamer, an Auralic Aries only plays DFF files. Most of the resultant files are tagged with artist, album and track metadata. However, some are not. As a result, the tracks do not show up at all. Is there a way to tag them using ISO2DSD? I can use Foobar but am unsure if the track data will migrate. Unfortunately, I deleted the original ISO rip files to free up space on my hard drive. I don't mean to hijack a spot on this forum but there isn't a way to PM @vortecjr about this. Thanks
