And you should be - pleased that is. It's quite different from what I am used to which is the Quartetto Italiano version but I do enjoy it very much indeed and the sq is first class as so often with BIS recordings. I still prefer Quartetto Ialiano which is more romantic (and Schubert was a romantic, wasn't he) although the sq, if not poor but shows it's age and does not get close to the Chiaroscuro's recording but in no way do I regret buying the BIS download. And it comes with the No. 9, D173 which is really nice as well.

Thanks for the confirmation. But then again, I have already discovered before this occasion that I often seem to favour the same classical recordings and artists than you do. /Mani

Often I value your reviews and insights but not in this case Why? because I have already made up my mind. This one is just beautiful. I have both Kempff on DG and Brautigam on BIS (all of Beethoven's sonatas) and really like most of them very very much. Kempff may be considered by some as being just a little bit too restrained but there is something about his playing that just keeps me listening and Brautigam perhaps just the opposite of Kempff, very vivid and sometimes furious. Some might say slightly over the edge but oh so captivating. BUT Perahia OMG - to my ears the best Mondschein I've ever heard and the Hammerklavier quite convincing as well. A must have!

I do like Melnikov and all of these composers but this one leaves me untouched, don't know why. Very good sound though but I just don't understand why he picked those pieces of music. But then again, I am no musician and mostly do not grasp the intellectual aspects of classical music. Music has to touch my heart and this one does not. But that's only me.

+1 for Lyngdorf - alas, you'll need a very thick wallet for their Steinway line of products. But as mentioned before, do have a closer look/listen at their TDAI-2170.

    Respectable Integrateds

Hi all Have been visiting CA regularly the last 5 years mainly to learn from all you knowledgeable guys here and have never thought I could contribute with anything remotely as interesting as most of you do. However this seems to be the first time I think it may be worth to comment on the OP's query. About a year ago I totally change most of my stuff (amongst others the Gryphon Callisto 2100 integrated amp and Auralic Vega) and purchased the Lyngdorf TDAI-2170 / Lyngdorf SDA-2400 combo and I must say that I couldn't be happier. If you don't need the extra power of the SDA-2400 the TDAI-2170 will suit the needs of many if not most. All depending on your speakers of course. An extra bonus is the integrated RoomPerfect room correction (which you don't have to use, of course, if you dislike digital room correction). Anyway, I think it would be really worth to check it out at your nearest Lyngdorf dealer. http://lyngdorf.com/tdai-2170/ http://lyngdorf.com/sda-2400-2/ Mani
