  1. Just looks. I would never comment on the sound of something I have never heard.
  2. First you need to consider your budget. Then you can determine which components you would like to include in your system. I doubt many members of this forum know what is available for purchase in South Africa.
  3. If any seller allowed Wilson Speakers to be staged in their home, I would guess a long long wait for a buyer.
  4. When did it all start to go wrong? My theory: MTV destroyed human ability to concentrate. Music Video directors produced videos with quicker and quicker cuts. Viewers could barely grasp one image before the next one appeared. Overexposure to this technique must have done some damage to the still developing brains of young viewers. How many people can "deep read" today. Congress people don't read the bills they vote on. How many people finished "Infinite Jest". How do we explain the division and hate that grips America today? What happened to respectful political discourse? When they killed the radio star, they may have killed something much more precious.
  5. Paul McGowan (PS Audio) posted this quote a few days ago: 2,450 years ago, the Greek philosopher Plato wrote: "“If men learn this, it will implant forgetfulness in their souls; they will cease to exercise memory because they rely on that which is written, calling things to remembrance no longer from within themselves, but by means of external marks. What you have discovered is a recipe not for memory, but for reminder. And it is no true wisdom that you offer your disciples, but only its semblance, for by telling them of many things without teaching them you will make them seem to know much, while for the most part they know nothing, and as men filled, not with wisdom, but with the conceit of wisdom, they will be a burden to their fellows.”
  6. Chris, I love this site. When I first started working with digital (Computer) based music the people on this site gave me good (non judgmental) advice. I am forever thankful. Even the appearance of a conflict of interest can be damaging. I, and others, trust your judgement and we have no reason to doubt your dedication to our hobby.
  7. I take all "audio journalism" with a grain of salt. The journalist can certainly describe the equipment, specifications and features which all well and good. But given that listening environments are so different, system configurations are so varied, etc how can we give anything beyond passing attention to Sound Quality impressions? Besides. these journalist get more fee audio equipment than a Supreme Court Justice. I know I would be influenced by such largess.
  8. @Kimo sez: Speaker cables would seem to fall into a shorter is better take, but digital appears to have more satanic influence. I say: Please allow me to introduce myself I'ma USB you need wealth to own Been around a long long time no satisfaction in my home (system) No bold type. More the pitty
  9. ok,ok, ok....... I would suspect that a goodly number of our audiophile audience supports a larger font. To tell the truth I sometime increase font size just to bug @sphinxsix and sometimes I don't. Carry on. rs.bmprs.bmprs.bmp
  10. Wow, I don't know where to start. When I was 14 or 15 The Rolling Stones introduced me to the blues. Believe me, no one in Santa Maria California circa 1964 knew who Little Walter was. Now in the last few years of life, streaming has given me Massive Attack, Bob Moses, Nick Cave, and many others that god knows are as obscure on most American Radio stations as Howl'n Wolf was back in the day. Enjoying music as a solo activity is fine. But beware, social isolation is a killer. And thanks to @PYP I did not know that the bell curve (which is the basis for my existence) had an actual formula.
  11. @irvingmax "2. the last thing I want is a plethora of online distraction. 3. I hate ads." et al. You need a new streaming service. I don't see ads or online distractions on my system. I find a lot of new music on my streamer. Very surprising and exciting music. Streaming guides me to purchase higher quality physical media. If is so wish.
  12. You say Allo, I say goodbye...... I am here all week.......
