Hugo9000
Maurice Ravel Complete Piano & Orchestral Works Samson François André Cluytens/Orchestre de la Sociéte des Concerts du Conservatoire* *aka Paris Conservatoire Orchestra I think today I'll begin with CD4 of this marvelous 6-disc set, which includes Boléro, La valse, Rapsodie espagnole, and Ma Mère l'Oye Some tape hiss, of course, but not too distracting, especially in light of the beauty of the music and the wonderful interpretations here. For a taste, here is La valse: semente 1 请教别人一次是5分钟的傻子,从不请教别人是一辈子的傻子 Link to comment
Popular Post sphinxsix
Another journey into timelessness.. A very good album IMHO (I can't really say right now if I prefer this performance of the central three compositions of the album or Kremer's on ECM - haven't heard it in a long time). Hugo9000
Nina Stemme and Placido Domingo Richard Wagner Tristan und Isolde Antonio Pappano/Orchestra of the Royal Opera House This is my favorite recording of this opera. While I admire Birgit Nilsson immensely, I prefer tonal opulence in singers, so the two leads here fit the bill nicely for me. Placido Domingo was the first (and still one of very few--I prefer female voices as a rule) male singer I loved, and my love for the beauty and passion of his singing hasn't diminshed over the years. Oh, and yes, I gave the singers top billing over the composer deliberately, because I actually like them, while Wagner was a pig! hahaha so sue me! 请教别人一次是5分钟的傻子,从不请教别人是一辈子的傻子 Link to comment

Popular Post rando
Quote Of course, many of the pieces on this recording were adapted in some way to accommodate the unusual instrumentation, but I would especially like to mention the "arrangements", which are more like completely original compositions, by harpsichordist Barbara Weiss. The term "crossover" doesn't begin to do justice to the originality of her pieces, which combine east and west, old and new, and classical, traditional, and popular, to make these pieces the highlights of the CD. The recording was made over a period of three chilly, snowy days at Hamline United Methodist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. The usual problems of recording in an urban church, principal among them being scheduling, were augmented by the hissing, clanking, clicking, and other onomatopoeia of the steam heating system. A more interesting challenge was to balance these very different instruments -- the pipa is a lot louder than the other plucked instrument present, the harpsichord. In fact it is louder than the other four instruments put together. The performers were all very patient as I worked to resolve these problems. I used a single near-coincident pair of Neumann KM140 microphones, a Studio Technologies Mic-PreEminence preamp, and an Alesis Masterlink for this recording. -Peter Nothnagle Furthering my exploration of Schubert Club releases. christopher3393 and accwai 1 1 Link to comment

rando
Radio Shack, in those halcyon days of the 80's, standing upon its place as a technological byword contracted this CD sampler of original digital recordings from Varèse Sarabande to be manufactured in Japan. Specifically (to save you from squinting at the small print) used were either SoundStream or Sony PCM digital recording systems with all digital transfers, assembly, and editing performed by Master Digital.
