Popular Post Guidof
Beethoven: Complete Works for Piano Trio, Vol. IV (Trios opus 11 & 38). Spirited and thoughtful playing by the Swiss Trio. Regrettably, the recording is a bit shrill and suffers from unfocused imaging. A 24/96 Qobuz download. For both performances and sound, I much prefer the old Beaux Arts Trio readings of these pieces (from CD rips): Musicophile and rodrigaj 1 1 For my system details, please see my profile. Thank you. For me its sound is very organic part of jazz. Very early impressions - Miles' Bag's Groove, various MJQ recordings, Burton/Corea, etc., etc. Or, the sound of Lionel Hampton's Midnight Sun solo in the first minutes of Bertolucci's The Sheltering Sky, one of the best examples of jazz in film soundtrack. I found that I prefer the vibraphone/piano combo. And so for me the next task is to look for pairs I like. Some example: Gary Burton and Chick Corea in the 1970s & 1980s (nb. for some reason I never liked Gary Burton with Makoto Ozone). Bobby Hutcherson and (the young) Herbie Hancock in the 1960s/1970s. I'm a huge fan of MJQ, but I find Milt Jackson often "sounded better" playing in a non-MJQ setting. Let every eye ear negotiate for itself and trust no agent. Musicophile
I've just reviewed E.S.T.s latest live album, 10 years after Svensson passed away, here: https://musicophilesblog.com/2018/05/21/esbjorn-svensson-trio-live-in-london-a-review/ Beware that Qobuz seems to be selling an upsampled version of this, make sure you get what looks like the 24/48 master from HRA: It's a really nice album, check it out. slartybartfast
Just to put the Vibraphone to bed. I enjoyed listening to Cal Tjader that was a good recommendation, then listening to a George Shearing album - Velvet Carpet - I have enjoyed very much, the vibraphone is all over it so it can’t be all bad can it Has George Shearing been covered, what else should I track down? pkane2001
Verdi Requiem. Riccardo Muti, CSO, recorded live in 2009, 88/24. Great sound, great orchestra and conductor. Soloists are all very good, although not world-class, with the possible exception of Borodina. -Paul DeltaWave, DISTORT, Earful, PKHarmonic, new: Multitone Analyzer Link to comment

The album here is recording of a special qin in the collection of Haiyan County Museum in Zhejiang, China to commemorate the recent completion of its restoration. Inscription on the body indicates it's made by the famous Yuan dynasty qin maker 朱遠 . It's been passed down as family heirloom through the generations, but by 1970s it was hanging on the wall without strings and accessories, and was about to be burned as firewood. The lady owner felt guilty and decided to donate it to the country instead. Research done at the museum authenticated the maker and showed how historically significant this qin is. This recording was made with silk string of medium ( 太古 ) gauge. christopher3393 and semente 1 1 Link to comment
