If you're happy with the Faust-Melnikov collaboration you should (if you haven't already) check out Queyras-Melnikov Beethoven cello/piano sonatas.  I heard them in concert in a very intense space in Berlin, and was sufficiently moved that I bought their recording.  It does not disappoint.

I don’t typically have a problem with the SQ of Harmonia Mundi. 

 

However, this particular recording is one of the few Isabelle Faust albums that I don’t care very much about:

I agree with your assessment of Faust's interpretation. I sounds somewhat weird.

It’s too bad. I’m such a huge fan of hers. I finally saw her live in August play the Bach concerts and it was great.

It sound strange to me, but I may be reacting to never having heard a HIP of these sonatas. The Klein/Grummaux pairing has been my goto recording for over 25 years.
