Furious? If you are actually upset at all about this, it speaks more about you than the nitwit that spent 6K on a USB cable. They don't seem too upset by it, and I don't understand why anyone else would be.

That is a plain stupid. People should buy whatever they want in audio. We all have our hobby. For all I care he could spend a million on a cable or any other fun item (coke, booze, hookers cars). What does it matter how someone spends his money? As long as they don't hurt anyone all is good.

 

I just get really annoyed at people who judge others on how they spend they money.

One of my moggie's has cost me a 42" 4K tv a monitor and one or two other things with his habits, like the other guy it happens and I don't get upset over it, and find that witty remarks help ease the loss.

People pay thousands for a bottle of whiskey. There is no proof that is actually better than a $50 bottle.

A lot of overpriced audio cables are a scam, backed by dubious claims and made up physics...

With Whisky they don't make the dubious claims, there is a difference.

Maybe if more questioned things in audio then we would all achieve better sound reproduction, just to many myths and false claims in some areas of commercial audio, cables being one of the main areas where money can be made so we have endless fancy cables doing magical things that don't happen in other areas of electronics.

Young pets and hi-fi can be an adventure.

 

Years ago, my daughter's puppy chewed up the open frame output transformers on a DIY SE 45 tube amp.  It was out my system, on the floor in the spare room where we kept him while we were gone.  When I came home, the puppy was carrying around a #45 tube in his mouth, looking for a place to "bury" it.

 

I always joke that if the amp had been turned on, we would have had a "blown woofer"

That makes a lot of sense. Gold is heavy and soft. All you need is a car so heavy it can't get out of its own way and will dent if you lean on it! Then get annoyed. I don't care how the guy spends his money. Wouldn't lift a finger to stop him. But there's and old saying: "A fool and his money are soon parted." and while I celebrate his ability to buy what he wants, I have no sympathy for him because his cat destroyed the cable. If my kitten (if I had one), destroyed my USB cable, I would shake my finger at him/her, and while smiling, say "Naughty kitten" and then reach in my miscellaneous cable drawer and extract another $2 USB cable, because that's what they cost!

My sister's puppy swallowed the entire TV remote. They had to perform surgery to take it out of his stomach. Only found one battery, though. He must have eliminated the second one at some point, otherwise I imagine it would have corroded and been a serious issue.
