JazzDoc
I'll stick to Dylan's original version on 'John Wesley Harding' and the cover by The Jimi Hendrix Experience on 'Electric Ladyland'. I've liked some albums by DMB and they are fine players but this is 'Dad Rock' at its worst. Link to comment

sphinxsix
I agree with Dylan who said he had been blown away upon hearing Jimi Hendrix's rendition of "All Along the Watchtower," for the first time. "It overwhelmed me, really," he said in 1995. "He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day." "Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a tribute to him in some kind of way," Dylan said in 1985. As for originality - probably Brian Bromberg's one (what you hear are his bass guitars plus Vinnie Colaiuta on drums only). But this is a version of the Hendrix version anyway.. Link to comment
Ralf Hutter
Nice little multimedia article about the Hendrix version: http://www.covermesongs.com/2014/03/the-story-behind-jimi-hendrixs-all-along-the-watchtower.html and some analysis: http://www.reasontorock.com/tracks/watchtower.html sphinxsix 1 Link to comment
firedog
Found it really interesting how Dylan said he is always sort of channeling the Hendrix version when he plays it. Main listening (small home office): Main setup: Surge protector +>Isol-8 Mini sub Axis Power Strip/Isolation>QuietPC Low Noise Server>Roon (Audiolense DRC)>Stack Audio Link II>Kii Control>Kii Three (on their own electric circuit) >GIK Room Treatments. Secondary Path: Server with Audiolense RC>RPi4 or analog>Cayin iDAC6 MKII (tube mode) (XLR)>Kii Three . Bedroom: SBTouch to Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Setup. Living Room/Kitchen: Ropieee (RPi3b+ with touchscreen) + Schiit Modi3E to a pair of Morel Hogtalare. All absolute statements about audio are false Link to comment
Robelinks
I always enjoyed the Dave Mason take on this great song. Towering guitar riffs, pumping rhythm section and solid vocals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01Bd2W2XAo0 Link to comment
