Audeze Mobius Headphones

Recommended Posts

I know that companies like LHLabs have left enterprises like Kickstarter and Indiegogo with much more than negative reputations here at CA(and elsewhere). Nonetheless, I was curious as to why there was no buzz on CA about the Audeze Mobius headphones. While they're being marketed largely to the gaming community, I can certainly see a place for them among computer audiophiles.  With Audeze behind them, plus a projected tentative (yes, tentative) release date of july 2018, I'd say that there's good reason to expect that these cans could be in people's hands by the end of the year. And, BTW, I have no affiliation or financial interest in Audeze. The way I figure it, Audeze is using Indiegogo as a funding source for their R&D, thereby bypassing their company R&D fund. There's nothing inherently wrong with that so long as they deliver. I also see them as marketing the Mobius to gamers who, by and large, are not interested in spending more than $399(the post-Indiegogo MRSP) on headphones and, in the meantime, generating a slew of 3D headphone patents and later coming out with a higher quality product aimed at the audiophile willing to spend substantially more. Anyway, here are a few links to get people started:

I wasn't aware of them myself.  Must say the link with Ted Denney in it almost immediately turned me off.  Because of Ted Denney.

They look interesting, the tech sounds (pun intended) intriguing, but the promises seem awfully advanced for that price.  I might be a potential customer even at the post launch price.  Not sure how I feel risking the pre-launch though.

Thanks for bringing them to my attention.

EDIT to add:

Looking further it appears they are selling various decoding plug ins beyond the price of the headphone.  That is probably how they offer all this at such a low price.  They intend to have a continuing revenue stream for decoding plug ins.  Sort of like hardware by subscription via software required.  This rather turns me off them.

And always keep in mind: Cognitive biases, like seeing optical illusions are a sign of a normally functioning brain. We all have them, it’s nothing to be ashamed about, but it is something that affects our objective evaluation of reality.
