Audirvana 3 For Windows

Recommended Posts

I just read the following on John Darko's blog:

http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2018/01/mqa-streaming-goes-mobile-nugs-net-on-ios-groovers-on-android/

Lastly, both Amarra and Audirvana+ continue to work behind the scenes on their Windows MQA implementations with latter slated to arrive at the end of January. Audirvana+ for Windows will see all the MacOS version’s feature set wrapped in an overhauled interface.

Ii went WOW.   This will really solve some issues for me and can hardly wait.

Does anyone know anything more - I never even knew it was being worked on.

Thanks

Bill

Had a look at their Facebook page - nothing there.

But now with you recalling it I am feeling very confident it will happen.

I am looking to set up my critical listening system where my main computer, a high end windows machine, is and this would be great.  I  can use Audirvana or HQPlayer which I already have and simply choose what sounds the best.   Audirvana links into MQA/Tidal which HQPlayer does not.  Love it.

Thanks

Bill

I sent Damian a message regarding the problem of long file names not being supported in Windows 10. Reason, JRiver will not import files with long names. I felt this would be a problem for classical music file names in Audervana/Windows. I'm not aware of other Windows apps that are able to use long names. FWIW, JRiver Mac imports all my files, including the ones (lfn) JRiver will not.

@damien78 will we be able to get a free trial of A+ on Windows even if we already did a free trial of A+ V3 on MacOS?

Can you tell us about pricing for the Windows version yet?  Will there be a discount for MacOS A+ licensees?

I like the new features you are introducing that you showed on the A+ Facebook page.

  • New “View by Artists” in addition to those by Tracks, Albums
  • Direct selection of the audio device on the main Interface
  • Redesigned search engine
  • New mini-player

Other Features of Audirvana Plus for Windows 10

  • Compatibity with network players that properly use the UPnP/DLNA standard

With the new Windows 10 version of Audirvana Plus, Audirvana is responding to public demand and the growth of the digital audio market, as well as the strong growth of streaming services, by offering products specially developed for music lovers.

The proper implementation of uPNP for non Roon players like most Japanese sourced network players, Pioneer, Teac, Denon, Yamaha et al will be welcome for a large computer user base.  Windows Media Player is a woeful platform for a music server, thank goodness there's a better alternative.

Oh well, the complaints will come thick and fast about the price, no one is forcing to buy. According to this page, prices are USD74. Wonder if it will work on Win2016...?

I would not have bothered mentioning Pioneer streamers wrt requiring proper implementation of UPnP - none of them support gapless playback when used with a gapless supporting UPnP/DLNA control point, so won't play gaplessly with Audirvana Plus regardless.

No need to wait for an alternative to WMP for UPnP/DLNA support - JRiver Media Center, foobar2000, etc, are already here!

Yes, that's the price quoted in the Positive Feedback article linked above as well.

More than JRiver but less than Roon.  Time will tell how they do.

I didn't mention gapless. That's a function of the player and its performance, if you want to nitpick which you usually do.

I forgot the bits are bits concept.

I'm waiting the program. I use Roon all the time but a simpler solution is always welcome. Now I have installed foobar2000 and jriver. But both of them are not polished. Foobar2000 has a raw power but is very 00's in the interface and jriver is a total mess. It has a lot of options but it lacks the small bits to make it perfect.

Er, no. Under standard UPnP/DLNA both, the player and the controller have to support gapless playback for it to function - ie, proper implementaion of UPnP/DLNA.

BTW, my beef was (obviously) with Pioneer - not Audirvana Plus, which to its credit does support gapless as a standard UPnP/DLNA control point. So Pioneer devices aren't really good examples of those requiring proper implementaion of UPnP.

Can't see how mentioning a couple of existing alternatives to WMP as Windows UPnP/DLNA controllers/media servers would lead you to that conclusion!

Agreed. Both JMC & fb2k require a fair bit of configuration and/or insider info for them to be used satisfactorily as UPnP/DLNA controllers/media servers.

When is this ever going to be released.  It was supposed to be release a few weeks ago, but it seems that the data keeps getting pushed back.  Any firm release date?

@damien78 is A+ for Windows a separate license from A+ for Mac ... in other words, do current licensees of A+ on Mac still need to buy a copy of A+ for Windows to run it on a Windows machine?  Any discount for such users?

On this 6moons page:

… I read

"His algorithms have more potential applications still. He has already tested the benefit of this technology on a simple iPhone and prototype version of the Audirvana software player"

… referring to Gilles Milot's recent new digital volume control algorithm.

Does anyone know if this volume algorithm is being incorporated into A+ for Mac and Windows? The article also mentions new up-sampling algorithms from M Milot!
