Diana Krall "Quiet Nights" high res worth it?

Recommended Posts

I already have this cd but was wondering if the high res version is worth buying in terms of better sound, dynamic range, etc.

Thank you.

I have the highres and it looks real:

Thank you so much for the reply.  I must admit I have no idea what I am looking at in your image.  I guess my concern is that the provenance of the high-res. Is it just the original redbook masters with added bits?  If the original files were actually recorded in high res then I am more inclined to buy this.

The key thing to look for to understand if a highres is legit is if there is a steep cut of frequency information above 22 khz, which would indicate an upsampled redbook album. Here you can see the frequency information (middle graph), is nicely and slowly fading all the way to 48khz, the highest possible sample rate for a 24/96 album.

The bit monitor (not shown in this chart) also shows that all 24 bits of resolution are being used.

Thank you very much @Musicophile for the detailed explanation.  I will go ahead and get the high res version to see if it sounds any different from the redbook.
