semente
I am unable to enjoy my (ripped) CD of Oscar Peterson's "Night Train". The treble is a splashy, pumping, mess... It's a '97 Verve Master Edition digipak like this one: Can someone recommend a better mastering or is this a problem of the original tapes? David Bostock
I'm pretty pleased with the 24/96 download from HDTracks. DR 14, sounds pretty natural. Link to comment

semente
I listened to the first track of the HDTracks download and even though it sounds a bit better than the Verve CD remaster the cymbals still sound hazy and splashy. WIkipedia has Val Valentin as recording engineer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Train_(Oscar_Peterson_album) The same guy who recorded audiophile classics like Getz/Gilberto and what seems to be half of the Verve catalog. Maybe he just had a bad day for this recording, as I agree that Night Train is not really audiophile material. semente 1 Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment

CatManDo
I haven't heard that one, but a lot of the "Verve Elite Edition" reissues sound rather thin, while the first CD reissues and the later reissues sound more faithful to the master tapes in terms of tonality. Claude Link to comment
