Fourforks
Hi guys what is the difference between these two folders. I always assumed that music/iTunes Media/music was the same as music/iTunes/ iTunes Media/Music. However, I have just downloaded a track from iTunes and noted that it is in the latter folder but not the former. So do I need both folders? Link to comment
kirkmc
It sounds like iTunes has missed your library, and set up a new one. The correct path should be: ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music Is there an iTunes Library.itl file at the top level of your iTunes Media folder? I write about Macs, music, and more at Kirkville. Fourforks
If I go music/iTunes then are 3 .itl files: iTunes. LibraryExtras, iTunes.LibraryGenius. and iTunes.Library2015-06-13 Link to comment
kirkmc
It looks like iTunes somehow missed your actual library file. You need to open iTunes and immediately press the Option key (if you're on Mac; I think it's Shift on Windows) and reselect the correct library folder. You'll then need to add any files that were added in the wrong location to your library. I write about Macs, music, and more at Kirkville. Author of Take Control of macOS Media Apps. Fourforks
Thanks Kirk. I have selected the Music file but get an error message saying 'An iTunes library file couldn't be found in the folder 'music'" Link to comment
