pkane2001
Having been an audiophile for well over 25 years and an amateur astronomer for 40 years, I'm very curious as to how many others here are into both hobbies. Is there something common in us that might lead to an interest in both? Love of beauty? Or science? Or is the night sky in some way similar to beautiful music? Or maybe both provide a solitary escape? Would love to hear others opinion on this. -Paul DeltaWave, DISTORT, Earful, PKHarmonic, new: Multitone Analyzer Link to comment
gbryant
I like looking at the stars on a clear night. I like Star Trek. But, you gotta know that the Earth is flat! ? Link to comment

It might be flat, but at least you'll know that it's rotating, since the stars keep running away when you're looking into an eyepiece of a telescope! -Paul DeltaWave, DISTORT, Earful, PKHarmonic, new: Multitone Analyzer Link to comment

Check this out, done recently by an amateur astronomer (ok, maybe he's not an audiophile?) -Paul DeltaWave, DISTORT, Earful, PKHarmonic, new: Multitone Analyzer Link to comment
esldude
I dabble in both. Was interested in astronomy before audio. As to why who knows? And always keep in mind: Cognitive biases, like seeing optical illusions are a sign of a normally functioning brain. We all have them, it’s nothing to be ashamed about, but it is something that affects our objective evaluation of reality. Link to comment
Supperconductor
Got into audio, then astronomy when I could finally afford a decent telescope. Precious little time for star gazing these days, though. Link to comment
jabbr
As previously mentioned: the "National Virtual Observatory" project aimed to provide access to the gigantic databases of observatory data: http://www.usvao.org/ . Its amazing what you can do from your laptop! Custom room treatments for headphone users. Link to comment
