ST-1 DSD & FLAC Player for iOS

Just recently I came across this new app (newly designed respectively) for iOS.

 

I’ve tried a lot of iOS HiRes Players (HF Player, Kaisertone and many more).
And while I like Kaisertone a lot ST-1 sounds clearly better to me when upsampling.
Better instrumental separation , more texture and better definition in the bass-department, better spatiality.
It’s easy to use and to navigate and of course it can also access the music already stored on your iPhone/iPod/iPad.

 

There’s also a free version (limited to playback 1 minute of each song) to check it out.

correction... it upsamples to the highest bitrate the DAC is capable of (eg. 384kHz/32bit)

Will it do ALAC? If not, that would be an obvious feature, especially on iOS.

Sure, ST-1 supports ALAC.
You can try with ST-1 free version.
It offers every functionality same as ST-1 PRO,
but the limited playback 1-minute only per each track.

I downloaded the free version for an eval.  Not sure why you just didn't do one version with an in-app upgrade.

 

The program is very nice...I'm having to get used to some of the UI differences but nothing deal breaking.  One thing difficult is that I'd expect a universal settings pulldown somewhere instead of getting access while playing an individual track.

 

Sometimes the program skips while playing...not sure why.  Sometimes it's while accessing the UI but not always.  I have an iPhone X.

 

"Running Time" is mispelled. 

 

Not sure I like the default DSD->PCM sonic presentation...I have to do more critical listening.  DSD over DoP works well.

I understand it cannot read from local sources (i.e., NAS file sharing) or UPnP/DLNA servers?

No, It can't.

No UPnP/DLNA support , but Google Drive only at the moment.
