Source: http://www.audiostream.com/content/qa-yves-riesel-ceo-qobuz There's no way the French say "cow" - that sound does not even exist in French LOL I think that's just a poor attempt at phonetically spelling out "co-" (like the English word "blow"). Co-buzz would be close enough for English speakers. Cebolla
That may be the way some, if not most of those across the pond pronunce the word 'buzz', but not those of us who speak Engish with an RP-ish type accent (south/south east England). To us, French spoken Qobuz sounds more like it should be spelt 'Co-berz'. We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us. -- Jo Cox Link to comment

I listened to a few Kazakh videos about the instrument, and it sounded to me like "koh-booz" with an emphasis on the first syllable. If you ask Google Translate to say "Qobuz" in French, it sounds similar but more, well, French. I guess we'll have to ask native French speakers. More important, check out how that instrument can sound! Everyone wants to date my avatar. Link to comment
audiobomber
Cool instrument! Clearly Qobuz is not a French word. No French words use an "O" after a "Q", with no "U" in between. Also, "buz" is foreign to a french-speaking person. If I ever need to say this word, I'm going to pronounce it like the alternate name for the instrument; kobyz. The qobuz (also spelled kobyz or kyl-kobyz and roughly translated as “horsehair”) is the traditional, sacred and symbolic instrument of Central Asia.
