after receiving certain number of votes it gets hidden

good premise.  Can this be explored further with CA site?  It's interesting to say the least.

Agreement or disagreement with a post isn't the cause of grief (for me at least).  It's when things go off topic (often), resort to 'bickering' (not unusual), or devolve into personal attacks (more rare lately from what I've seen).   Some witty sarcasm is actually a good thing as it brings flavor to the read.  The challenge will be in delineating 'funny' posts from 'aggressive' ones.  Even then, not everyone reacts the same way to, say, sarcasm and may feel aggrieved.

At the end of all this exploring, there may not be a good solution here (if we want to avoid censorship) except to have a 'report post' and have one or several mods (volunteers) respond, and do so consistently.

I prefer the OP having an option to hide rather than leaving it to readers. Mr X starts a post. Mr Y makes a comment. X hides the post. Readers can still read them if they want to and they can reply to it. If majority of the readers feel the post shouldn’t be hidden or the OP was abusing his privilege than CA could remove the privilege from him.

What if a person(s) persistently downvotes someone regardless of what the say ? It will be used as a form of chastisement, or people exhibiting a grudge.

That already happened on this very forum. For a while, there was a downvote button, but Chris removed it after a few people started abusing it in the way you describe.

I have been using an ad-blocker plugin for a couple of years. Over the past year I have seen more and more sites using popups to ask me to turn it off. On more aggressive sites they will sometimes actually block my access. I understand this and appreciate the economic model that many websites work with.

In the spirit of supporting Chris's work here and to fund his three legged dog I now have unblocked ads here.

I would just ask one favor. Please consider not using ads that have motion in them or that follow you as you scroll..

Thanks for the great site!

You'd have to bring that up with your ad blocker developer. Try disabling it once and see how many ads you get. Zero :~)

righto. The cover page features a lot of links to youtube, which is a little different to an ad link. There are 6 blocks on the page, but when allowed, the count is zero. Damn software coding, full of fabrication.

Those social sharing buttons might still be pulling in some tracking links that get blocked. I haven't checked the ones here (on mobile at the moment), but it's pretty common.

Hi Guys - As a countermeasure to the spammers that continually hammer CA I’ve implemented a new feature that will stop them from posting. I won’t say what it is because that would give them information about circumventing it.

Let me know if you see anything strange when posting.

And a minute ago there is more?

All the best.

Why not can the first 10 posts of a new user? All of their posts must be approved by the mod during the probation period of 10 posts.

Great idea. I know a few sites that do that.  The first few post must be approved by the site mod or owner(s).   During that "new intro period" no attachments like pictures, no links it sure cuts down on crap coming in.

I value all opinions and feedback and have taken @mansr comments seriously. One other person who frequents CA sent me a PM about this as well.

We try to find a balance that makes everyone happy (yes there's the problem, keeping everyone happy). This new banner space isn't going to be used all the time. It's much more expensive than traditional banner space, but it enables us to show the banner less and gives the advertiser better results (CTR). This banner is purchased on a monthly basis, usually to coincide with a launch or something special. The current dCS banner campaign in this position expires in the middle of August.

As a point of reference, please consider visiting this HiFi site (link below) and compare it to our top banners. This doesn't make anyone right, but it's a point of reference nonetheless.

Well, yeah, but that site is the audiophile parallel to a girly magazine. Lots of ads, pictures, virtually no content. "Light porn" for audiophiles. I never go there - it is a total waste of time.

Main listening (small home office):

Main setup: Surge protector +>Isol-8 Mini sub Axis Power Strip/Isolation>QuietPC Low Noise Server>Roon (Audiolense DRC)>Stack Audio Link II>Kii Control>Kii Three (on their own electric circuit) >GIK Room Treatments.

Secondary Path: Server with Audiolense RC>RPi4 or analog>Cayin iDAC6 MKII (tube mode) (XLR)>Kii Three BXT

Bedroom: SBTouch to Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Setup.
Living Room/Kitchen: Ropieee (RPi3b+ with touchscreen) + Schiit Modi3E to a pair of Morel Hogtalare.

All absolute statements about audio are false :)

Hi,

It ain't working.

Google translate indicates it is Korean - and is about travel. For some reason they mention Thai, Vietnamese, and Russian travel shops.

I have not seen this on any other sites where the forum sign up is very easy.

Are you sure you are not being targeted ?

Regards,

Shadders.

Hi Shadders - What a morning. Thousands of posts. My new thing doesn’t work. Time to go back to the developers of the custom code with the evidence :~(

HI,

I mean being targeted by someone who does not have your best interests in consideration, such as a person with a grudge, as opposed that the spammer finds your site easy to spam.

Yes, my remark was regarding the level of the stuff, which might indeed indicate targeting.
