Please recommend small switch and ethernet isolation

Recommended Posts

In process of installing a micro rendu in system. Happily, 2014 mac mini will be relegated to storage room to share space with synology 415+ NAS, motorola cable modem, and asus rt-ac87u router. So, I'll need to add a small switch, and I'd like to add some sort of isolation to ethernet after all of this stuff. Would you kind folks please give some suggestions?

Some of us have recently discovered improved sound quality by bringing our Macs back into the listening room and doing away with the fiber we had been using for isolation.

Many of the posts in that thread are from Windows users struggling to get a bridge working properly. You have a Mac Mini so just add an adapter and after a few clicks you'll be good to go.

You didn't mention which mode you are using with your microRendu. I'm using Roon Ready and there are obvious benefits to direct Mode. It appears this is the case with HQPlayer NAA mode too. Not sure if there have been confirmed improvements in SQ in other modes.

So you're running mini close to micro rendu? If so, are you using the apple thunderbolt adapter?

I was running Roon Server on a 2008 Mac Pro that was situated in another room across the house. Since it has two Ethernet ports, I just dragged it into the listening room to evaluate the direct connection. It hasn't left. At some point though I do intend to replace it with something else.

The Apple Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter is definitely the way to go with Mac Minis that have Thunderbolt ports.
