Planning my new audio setup - A2+, D1, ATH-m50x

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, i just always love to hear good sound quality, and started to search and read about.

I am planning to buy some stuff's to put on my computer desk, to have more quality sound when using the PC.

Even having read a lot i am still newbie, so i want to ask some question's i got.

1 - RCA vs XLR, it matters if we are talking about desk setup?

2 - Studio Monitor's which usually have only XLR out have more quality than other's same range price Speaker's with RCA out? Like Yamaha HS8 Studio Monitor VS Audioengine HD6 Powered Speakers.

My third question is about 3 product's that i am planning to buy to start:

- Audioengine A2+

- Audioengine D1 dac

- Audio-Technica ATH-M50x,

I already readed lot of thing's about the A2+ about miss of bass and not too powerful speaker's, but i think i can't have nothing much more than this because the width of my desk it's not large (almost 48 inches / 120cm), probably 2 A2+ more one 28' monitor will cover all the width of the desk.

I want to know if these setup it's a great start, or there are other speaker's/dac's/headphone's that are in the same price range and are even better.

Thank's !!!

I think one speaker to add to your list for a desktop setup is the JBL LSR 305 or LSR 308. Great prices on Amazon. Yes, I would recommend the XLR cables but there are RCA to XLR adapters if you want to use RCA's. I have my desktop speakers placed on Isoacoustic stands which I would also recommend. For a DAC you may want to consider the Parasound Zdac which has XLR outs or the Emotiva DC1. I am using the passive version of the 305's, the JBL 230's to pair with my carver amp (the 230's are much larger than the LSR 305's):

A desk is not a suitable place to put speakers if you are concerned about sound quality. They should be put on sturdy stands, where they sound best in the room. Not on a desk which was designed for writing letters. That way you can better adjust crucial listening parameters such as height, distance from walls, separation, etc.
