Sam Spade
Hello, So, it looks like I will have to buy a DAC for my little office system – the Denon D-M39s. I am looking at the Dragonfly 1 and 1.2. Both have received very favorable reviews. I am on a budget and can get the first version for $ 100. Is it worth spending the extra $ 50 to get the 1.2? Am I getting that much more? Thanks for any advice. Link to comment
mwheelerk
I've never compared them. I have owned the first version and if I remember I think the price was $249. I think it was a value at that price so to me its a steal at $100 but unheard for $50 I'd go for the newer technology. I think you win no matter what. "A mind is like a parachute. Sam Spade
Thanks for your reply, Sorry I was unclear. It would be $ 100 for the v.1 and $ 150 for the v1.2 Dragonfly. I think your right about the newer tech though. If anyone has compared the two, I would love to hear what you think. Link to comment

TechHiFi
That mini-system has a DAC built in, so you don't really need an AQ Dragonfly. But, to answer your question I would buy the 1.0. I doubt you could tell the difference on that system. Sam Spade
Hey, The DAC on that unit only works through the USB on the front and can only read MP3 320k files max (it does WAV as well). It is not designed to read from a computer. The optical in only works with 2 Chnl. PCM. I have had no luck getting my Mac to output a PCM signal. That is why I am looking at a Dragonfly which I can connect via RCA. Can you give a little more detail as to why you think the Dragonfly 1.0 would be better? Thanks for your input. Link to comment
TechHiFi
I don't think the dragonfly 1.0 is better than the 1.2. I think on the Denon mini-system in your office you won't be able to hear the difference... Sam Spade
Hello people, I just wanted to say thank you for your help with the Dragonfly. I ended up going with the 1.2 version as I got a good deal on it - $ 130. Also, it sounds a little smother. Link to comment

Should I talk to the system admin about this? Do you think there is an issue with my account? On the plus side the little DF can sure rock out. It is really a fun piece of gear. Thanks again!
