WAM
Hello, I am using an Aries G1 with a Melco N1 (with MinimServer) as nas. I got the stuff this week, and I am searching for the ideal set up (I have a lot of classical music and jazz, so metadata is quite important for me). If I use LightningServer as library, I have problems with multiple disc albums and cover art. But adding music, or changing metadata works fine: the new music and changes show up after a re-scan. I could solve the multi disc problem, but that requires modifying my directory structure, not exactly what I want. If I use MinimServer as library, speed improves, and no issues with multiple disc albums and cover art. But newly added music does not show up, and if I modify an album' s metadata, the album gives an error (in stead of the the title of the track, "Modified or deleted item" shows up). Clear cache or Refresh cache is not the solution. Anybody an idea how to solve this problem? Is it possible to make visible metadata about orchestra and conductor in Lightning DS (I have seen it in another set up, but it is not visible in my set up)? Kind Regards, WAM Link to comment
wanta911
Do you rescan with Minimwatch/Minimstreamer? Link to comment
WAM
Yes, I did now... I found the solution on the MinimServer forum (I was looking in the wrong direction, I thought is was an Auralic-thingy, but it's a MinimServer-thingy). But thanks for your input. Kind Regards, WAM Link to comment
mrkoven
Hi fellow Auralic owners. I have been using the Aries Femto into Chord DAVE for a while. I am eyeing the Aries G2 lately and was wondering if anyone has made this upgrade and found it worthwhile. Is there a big difference between G1 and G2? I would hope DAVE is able to show even minor source differences. Thanks! Link to comment
Popular Post soundlogic
mrkoven; I also had an original Aries Femto. I used the Curious cables USB, an Intona industrial galvanic isolation, Wyred4sound Recovery, and an Uptone Audio JS2 LPS, into a PS Audio Directstrewam DAC. The stock Aries was good, but the Curious, Intona, W4S Recovery and JS2 took the sonics to another level. After sending my Aries Femto in for repair/replacement twice, and reading that the unit was discontinued and no longer supported, and that the future firmware that would enable room correction would not be compatible with the older Aries, I started thinking about replacing it. I really liked the Lightning DS, and overall, the sonics of my hot-rodded Aries, so I read EVERYTHING I could about both the G1 and G2. I knew that I would not trade my Directstream dac for any other dac, let alone the Vega ( PS Audio and designer Ted Smith continues to release new FPGA firmware upgrades for their dacs, for FREE! and without a doubt, each new firmware brings an incredible sonic upgrade), so the proprietary "Lightning" HDMI I/O was NOT a selling point for me. The upgraded footers on the G2 could be replicated with aftermarket footers on a G1, so that pretty much leaves the "unity chassis" and Galvanic Isolation for both USB/digital outs as being the only reason for me to choose the G2 over the G1. So, between the Auralic USA offering an unadvertised trade in value on a Aries Femto towards a G2 of $1200.00 USD, AND the fact that I could sell my Intona and JS2 PSU on the used market and re-coup some extra money...I pulled the trigger on the G2! It arrived this week. Ice Cold out of the box, (literally as the UPS driver had it in his truck all day and it was in the high 20's the day of delivery) the G2 trumped my old Aries by a substantial margin in detail and soundstage. I have since learned that the unit will benefit from 100-200 hours of break-in, and I have been playing it on repeat for the last few days. At the end of the day, and according to more than one review, the sonic differences between the G1 and the G2 vs. the financial differences may be a considerable issue. For me, I justified the G2 purchase with the above noted criteria. At this stage in my life, I will try to choose "no regrets", when at all possible. So far, I have no regrets in my decision of buying the G2. But as always...YMMV! Tim Doak and soundlogic 2 Link to comment

Doak
Here’s a link to using a calibrated mic and software to measure audio system frequency response. Once done results can be used as a guide for settings of Auralic equalizer. MiniDSP Suggest reading info on right hand side and playing/fiddling with the Auralic EQ just to see how to use it to make adjustments and how it works. Doak's Audio System Link to comment

Or not - I googled and came across this: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/room-measurement-tutorial-for-dummies-part-2.5/ Has anyone used Mini DSP's UMIK 1 with REW and the Aries Parametric EQ? Does it work well or not to bother at all? Link to comment

REW will even calculate recommend PEQ filters for you once you have determined your preferred target curve. Link to comment

jaaptina
I'm using AudioTool on Android with Dayton Audio iMM-6 microphone. It's a cheap set up. AudioTool can sent a sweep signal and measure the input from the mic at the same time. In my case I have a bass problem at about 57Hz and it shows. Doak 1 Link to comment
