Henry2
Anyone have advice or experience improving sound quality from a nuc? Currently use i5 5425 board, msata ssd, streacom nc1 fanless case (a beauty). --> Purchased a Cooler master 65 watt 9 volt dc adapter. --> Then hrt streamer, marantz 6003, CM5 speakers. Controller via ipad with jriver, music on nas. Sometimes i hear electrical fuzz... Is it worth getting different dc adapter / power supply? Is there a difference with the "front" or "back" usb outputs? Link to comment

crisnee
The back usb ouputs are considered to be less prone to noise and generally better, although this is not always the case. Chris Link to comment

Henry2
Great, i'll compare the usb ports. Anyone else using nuc as music player? Link to comment
jriver
Anyone else using nuc as music player? We got JRiver Media Center running and playing audio on a NUC 2820 on Debian Linux today. We'll post more in a few days in this thread: JRiver Synapse -- Would you consider a $395 Audiophile DLNA Renderer? Jim Hillegass / JRiver Media Center / jriver.com Link to comment
dtb300
Anyone else using nuc as music player? Using the 54250 kit (Music Only Player) running Windows 2012 R2 in Core Mode with Phil's Audio Optimizer. hdcase
Slightly off topic, but I have to ask. Which do you think would sound better, a NUC or a $300 Desktop from Dell? I'm guessing the NUC would because of the outboard power supply but the $300 Desktops from Dell are very tempting. Link to comment
mayhem13
We just equipped a bunch of workstations at work with Gigabyte i5 Brix machines.........awesome little powerpacks. I brought two home to configure as merchandising info-servers. While i had them, i had to hear how they did music. I must say, very quiet and sounded no worse than my dedicated music server. I'd also attribute some of it to the external power supply. Link to comment
DaQi
I am running a NUC using the Akasa fanless case but you guys are way ahead of me on the fiddling/optimizing scene. It was a big step up from the Acer Aspire Revo I was running previously. Link to comment

iago
Anyone encountering warm msata SSD temperatures on the fanless cases? My crucial M500 SSD gets around 60 degrees celsius just by playing JRiver Media Center. Not quite as high as yours, but the SSD in my desktop PC shows similiar symptoms. Ambient temperature is around 22 °C, the magnetic drive displays 40 °C, the SSD 44 °C. Both mounted in a Streacom FC8 case. I am used to 15 degrees temperature Gradient in ventilated cases. The higher temperature in your SSD might be due to the smaller form factor and less convection in the NUC.
