tweakazoid
Does anyone have any ideas on whether XLD can be used with other databases than freeDB or musicbrainz? And if so, how to do it? I have over 3000 classical CD's to rip and the lack of proper and consistent metadata for classical music is a challenge.. The Kaleidescape system really seems to be doing a pretty good job and uses the All Music Guide, but I have no idea if it is possible to integrate AMG-based data with XLD for ripping. I have searched high and low on the forums for answers but could not find any. If I missed something please let me know. Thanks! Link to comment
Boris75
With dBpoweramp, my favourite database for classical music is All Media Guide. Link to comment
pooger
I use XLD and like everything about it except for metadata editing. I just started using kid3 for that. It has multiple database choices. It seems like no matter what database you use, there's still a lot of editing to be done; with that many CDs I'm sure if you do a composer search, you'll want consistency in the naming, for instance. If having so much music so available wasn't so great, the effort it takes with a big collection would be hard to put up with. in any case, first I rip with XLD and choose the best listed metadata. Then I open the folder in kid3 and fine tune it. There are tools to automate kid3 (at least I think there are; as I said, I've just started using it). Link to comment

Have not tried dBp for a while; my ripstation consist of four Macs and I have been trying to avoid having to run them all as virtual machines.. Knowing that AMG works well with dBp makes this worth considering though. Link to comment

"It seems like no matter what database you use, there's still a lot of editing to be done" Agreed, but hoping that I can find at least one database that minimizes this as far as possible. pooger
Do you know if AMG is amongst these? It lists gnudb, tracktype, musicbrainz, discogs, and amazon in its import selection list. Link to comment
