Genelec 82XX - Stay away from OS X Maverick!

Recommended Posts

If you use GLM to control Genelec 82XX / 72XX series - DO NOT UPGRADE TO MAVERICK

Genelecs user forums are full of complaints of GLM failing after a while under OS X Maverick.

I'll post again when it should be safe.

It seems that the App Nap messes up the GLM system.

Genelec to the rescue:

GLM with OS X Mavericks (10.9): App Nap issue

Installing Mavericks now and will report back.

I haven't had a single problem since un-selecting.

Others report the same result on the Genelec forum.

App Nap killed my Final Cut Pro rendering as well. I assumed incorrectly that Apple would know enough not to enable App Nap on its own video app that must operate in the background.

The attention to detail - or lack thereof - on the OS X side of the house is appalling recently. I have a Mac Pro that kernel panics multiple times a day since 10.8.5 update.

I expect stability with a $5k computer. A less and less satisfied customer as time passes.

Usually that means you have a hardware issue, or you have a hunk of incompatible software loaded. Have you tried a clean install?

Anyone who considers protocol unimportant has never dealt with a cat DAC.
