chrisc
A couple of questions about the M8... Have you compared the M8 with any other DACs? Did it improve after several hours of listening? Are there any drawbacks or deficiencies that you are aware of? See it can be had for $179 from Massdrop - https://www.massdrop.com/buy/smsl-m8/talk The Cape Town Hi-Fi Club. See it can be had for $179 from Massdrop - https://www.massdrop.com/buy/smsl-m8/talk I have not compared the M8 to any other separate dacs. Slight improvement after several hours. Very detailed, excellent bass. No drawbacks as of yet. Link to comment

chrisc
Is it a kind of hiss? You need to tinker about with the playback options in JRiver and ensure that the device JRiver is talking to supports the resolution you are sending The Cape Town Hi-Fi Club. pas
I changed the PCM filter to slow and the Hoff Ensemble 24/352 played fine. Thanks for the responses. Link to comment
audiotone
I have the M8, Loki, Concero hd here at home for the moment. Winner on musicality is concero hd, second place Loki and last M8.... M8 plays perfect, but thin and not very musical...but definitely not bad at all. If you are looking for a cheap dac...buy the Loki...much more fun! Dont let you fool by worldrecord Dsd formats...Dsd64 is just all you need.... IMO Pcm at 192 with my altmann DAC is still the winner over any Dsd Dac... But it is fun to have them all...
