Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde - Klemperer (EMI)

Recommended Posts

And here we have one of the greatest recordings ever made of Mahler's late masterwork, with the incomparable Fritz Wunderlich and lustrous Christa Ludwig as soloists, Otto Klemperer conducting. Recorded in the early/mid 1960's, this is another EMI 96/24 remaster, downloaded from HDtracks. The EMI 'Great Recordings of the Century' RBCD already sounded wonderful; this should be even better!

I have this on the Japanese SACD release from late last year from EMI Japan. The redbook GROC is a very good recording in its own right. The 96/24 sources or the SACD for that matter just give a bit of bass heft, uncompressed top end and just a smidgeon of sparkle in places i.e literally the triangle percussion, also any congestion in the forte passages has been removed.
