Mozart: Piano Concertos 17 & 26 (BIS)

Recommended Posts

From a brand-new 96/24 recording on BIS of the Mozart Piano Concertos Nos. 17 & 26, played by Ronald Brautigam (on the fortepiano) with Michael Alexander Willens conducting the Kölner Akademie. It's the third release in their series of Mozart piano concertos, and the first in 96/24 (the previous ones were 44.1/24). Downloaded from eClassical (and available for limited time at 30% off). The graphs look great, and if they're anything like the previous ones in the series, the sound quality and performances should be great as well. (I downloaded this just a few minutes ago and won't be able to give it a serious listen until tonight at the earliest.)

Do they specifically state it was recorded in 96/24 PCM? The spectrum looks good, but the slight bump at 30 KHz looks a bit like the HF humps I have seen in stuff that was converted and filtered from DSD/SACD material.

Yes, they do (in the included booklet). BIS does a lot (nearly all?) of their recordings in 96/24 now, after several years of doing 44.1/24. They haven't done an original DSD recording for a long, long time.

Great! Thanks! In that case that slight HF bump is probably digital noise from the recording equipment.
