I haven't yet made it to one of the Met in HD simulcasts, though they are showing in a couple of theaters here in the D/FW area.

 

Worth noting that local opera companies are also expanding their audiences in similar ways. The Dallas Opera, for example, recently simulcast a performance of "Magic Flute" (live at the Winspear Opera House) via HD to Cowboys Stadium to an audience of ~15,000 fans:

By all accounts, a roaring success.
