Is Digital Audio A Mature Science?

VERTIGO 800 088-2 Made in W.Germany is the original and best !
  3. The DNBE doesn't have a WiFi card or Bluetooth on the board and is in theory the better of the two as a result. Cheers, Alan

    Windows 10 Worth It?

They finally got rid of Mosaic that was at least underlying tech for IE!?
  5. Hi, for my opinion, don´t expect too much from Ultracaps and LiFePO4. We allready use that since 2014. At first i like the idea only to listen Music out of a big cap without beeing connected to the wall. But in a direct comperision the ultracaps and the LiFePO4 were only second place behind a good regulated psu. I have tried a lot of battery/Lipo/LiFePo4/Ultracaps up to 3000F cells during the last 25 years of Hifi - i was never satisfied. The same with lt3045 Regulators. i really dont understand the Hype. Its a low ripple, ok, but the soundquality is only midclass. Everytime, when i use them the Sound seems to be thin for my ears. Kind regards Sunny

    New daily deal at eclassical!

32 minutes of great tunes from Carmen. The conductor substituted instruments for the vocal parts. Perfect for those of you who dislike operatic singing. http://www.eclassical.com/conductors/serebrier-jose/bizet-carmen-symphony.html
  7. What is wrong with it? I haven't seen anything to complain about on mine...

It's alive, that's great. It will be a nice complement/opposition to AudioLinux - that sounds great, but is gigantic and includes a lot of unnecessary parts. I like your minimalist approach. Thanks.

Is Digital Audio A Mature Science?

Correct. Turntable goes thru ADC and DSP as does any digital source we have set up as well. We then have have trained industry listeners from outside come to listen to tell us if our design work is heading in the right direction. The listeners have absolutely no idea what source or changes have been made since the last time they visited. Often the result of our work is entirely unexpected, improvements come where least expected. Also what I expected to be a great leap forward (bias) was not so great at all and ended up in the bin. The DSP cleans up the playback of any source, however I still believe it comes at a sonic cost of its own.

AudioLinux and NUC Troubleshooting and Tuning

Thanks for the reply. I'm inevitably going to buy the EtherRegen too, I was just curious about wifi. With all the vast-to-minute tweaking we're all doing at the moment I thought it was perhaps shortsighted not to at least try. Might roll up my sleeves and give it a go anyway.
  11. The race to find a computer powerful enough to do poly-sinc-xtr, non-2s at DSD1024 is now on 😁 Enough of us are struggling to get DSD512 working with even 2s ! But I'm quite happy with poly-sinc-lp-2s at DSD512. My fanless NUC7i7DNHE does it nicely. I'm going a bit off topic now, apologies.

AudioLinux and NUC Troubleshooting and Tuning

I tried to set up a WiFi bridge (as in the OG ) but failed in AL. However, enentually, I managed to connect through wifi to my router with Piero's help (many thanks Piero) and the reading. To setup a WiFi link is relatively straight forward but still pretty laborious for a Window guy. Basically you need to install the driver for the WiFi adapter 1st. Then follow the WPA_supplicant web page (which is manageable but not easy, at least I found it not too easy). I would not go into the details. Complications may still arise like the adapter may not be able see all the APs, difficulty in using 802.11x, ...etc. No intention to frighten you but as a friendly reminder/warning. If money is not a concern, using a switch may provide equal or better SQ, my speculation. I recall Larry mentioned he may try the EtherRegen which I'm eagerly waiting as well. For great switches already available, search Roy's or Rajiv's posts may help. Hope this helps.

Yes, I tried power off a few times as well. I even tried a different power supply.
  14. I part exchanged my Mytek Brooklyn for a Qutest and enjoyed the difference in SQ. Even with the big difference in functionality and a remote.. Whats feeding it and how.. has been a suprising journey....please read above 2 million posts...😁

AudioLinux and NUC Troubleshooting and Tuning

Since a couple of nuc/AL users have reported being pleased with the results of using a wifi connection I'd like to give it a go, if for nothing else than the peace of mind that I've tried all options I have immediately available (LPSU powered/ground shunted Netgear switch and CIsco 2060 switch). Is there a guide for establishing a wifi connection? Piero's site just has a link to the archlinux wiki with a brief mention that some wpa_supplicant will need to be installed and configured. iwconfig returns a 'command not found' error so I presume, by default, certain dependencies aren't included as standard in audiolinux?

Differences between DNBE and DNKE? We should be bold. Cheers.

And you arrived at this conclusion using a bias controlled method perhaps?

The pid of the process at this point of time is 2545. So chrt -p 99 2545 will set RT priorty for your process. But in case you have restarted mediacenter, the pid would have changed. So you might have to do it again to find the pid. But to confirm you can set RT priority on your box, do ps -ef |grep mediacenter24, Then do chrt -p 99 pid as detailed in earlier post After that you should be able to set the RT priority. can you attach the contents of the file /lib/systemd/system/jriver.service or paste the contents here. Also the process listing shows that you have started mediacenter by clicking a desktop icon. That's why it shows the tty as tty1. Which means mediacenter has not been started through jriver service. Maybe the process of starting mediacenter is different on this distribution and not as per the link which you had sent me earlier. In that case you will have to modify the desktop launcher to add the chrt command. But that we can do later after you test it like I have told you above.

Did you try a power off? It behaves differently compared to a software reboot.
  22. DNBE as the endpoint and DNKE as the server. Figured if I'm trying to equal or beat my Zenith then I should be bold.

Is Digital Audio A Mature Science?

So you convert the analogue to digital to pass through the DSP I presume, yet even though its been through a digital conversion its still better than the other anaolgue that has been through a digital conversion.... Never mind of course that most stuff is digitally recorded anyway these days... No bias working here then...

OK, I tried hydrogen audio. It didn't go too well.

So you're suggesting @wgscott deliberately lied to us here on CA?

    what is better than Jriver

true, there are too many variables in the software itself to label it one way or another, I tended to choose settings that increase detail above all else , eg minimum buffer size, wasapi over KS plus many others. infact im reminded now that I have been using wasapi mainly for its clean but clinical sound but KS with phase alignment was extremely involving and musical sounding... with no DC blocking at all on the amp it wasnt safe to use so ended up forgetting all about it.
