    Allo Digione

Hi Dr. J, I v much like your sense of adventure ... IMHO that way lies knowledge and progress. 👍🏻 As you have so rightly identified, the LT3045 is a super-measuring regulator. if you fancy going with one of these, you might find something like the attached the simplest option, as the regulator itself is absolutely tiny. These boards contain the capacitors, etc needed to make the regulator work and set its voltage output. The one with the prongs is dead easy to work with on a breadboard as the prongs just slip into the holes on the breadboard, the other one (which only gives 200ma in that example) is also easy to work on a breadboard using some wire links to connect power in and out. I personally found the LT3045, with our without additional capacitance, to sound extremely clear and clean and very low-noise, but insufficiently ‘gutsy’ for my liking. I’m still trying to discover why that is (and it’s not inconceivable that I just like the sound of a supply that isn’t quite so fully-regulated) ... and currently I’m using a TI LM7805, which measures a bit worse but to me sounds a bit better. 🙄 But that is just personal preference, my electricity supply isn’t great, and you’re more than likely to find your preferences are different to mine. 😄 Hope that helps?

Rx8r3rod, I’m looking at the voltage regulator LT3045 and, with this unit, I’m guessing there’s no need for filter capacitors, given it is already listed as ultra low noise?

Hi, I have used a dc iPurifier 2 on the dirty side feed, and it makes a difference (in my system with my mains supply) and it made a bigger one feeding the clean side driven by an iPower 5v. Hope that helps?

    Allo Digione Signature

@RX8R3ROD, @rruffin: all good points, still I would like to see Allo offering some sort of return/refurbish/recycle scheme for old devices. I am not asking for money and my wish is not specific to the DigiOne product. Anyway, I have ordered a Signature, thanks to all who have so far contributed to this thread!

    Allo Digione Signature

Allo was asked this question on the Roon Board and they decided to temporarily give a 10% discount (which basically covers shipping from India). Allo offered this discount in response to your question about having already purchased the DigiOne, but when they gave the code, it was oriented to the Roon users. I think the code was "Roon10" or something like that. Just to put in a good word for Allo - this is more of a "hobbyist" product company than a regular audio products company. They obviously charge less (as evidenced by our joy at more "bang for the buck" compared to other steamers) and we, as grateful customers, might want to show some respect for this by not "nickel-and-diming" them. Even offering 10% - kind of a token gesture - isn't all that much. But regardless of the discount or no discount, what an audio value!!! (For the record, I purchased the DigiOne Player with acrylic case, then the metal case (which was later discounted when purchased as part of the DigiOne Player) and then the DigiOne Signature Player.) Just my two cents...

Usually that means your PSU is very noisy (19V), I would try to change it

    Micro USB power input broken

correction : Yes it will boot from the battery, booting time required more current to boot-up, 1..3 to 1.6A (depends upon the interfaces connected). battery pack should be able to feed this startup current without dropping the voltage.

    Allo Digione Signature

I totally agree with you that a manufacturer trade-up scheme would be great, and the more environmentally-friendly products, and their recycling are, the better for us all. 👍🏻 But I look at all the Hi-Fi equipment I have, or have had, and manufacturer-backed trade-up schemes are unfortunately barely more common than hen’s teeth ... If hi-end companies, with highish margins (albeit minuscule volumes) can’t / won’t do it, I wonder what hope has Allo? 🤔 But it would be great if they could, and it would set yet another example of what’s possible without spending a fortune. 😄 In the meantime eBay helps IMHO. For the present I’ve hung onto my Digione and spare Pi, as it serves as a useful reference.

    Allo Digione Signature

I have no idea what the Allo power supply will look like and how it will be priced but, among the commercial units available today, the LPS-1.2 seems like a perfect match for the DigiOne Signature. What I find disappointing is that Allo are not offering any form of trade-up scheme for DigiOne owners. A trade-up scheme would not need to warrant significant monetary advantages to DigiOne owners. Rather, it could be a means of avoiding the proliferation of electronic garbage and of ensuring proper recycling of obsolete products. I would like to see Allo setting new standards in matters of environment-aware manufacturing and trading. I would expect that part of the price that we payed for the DigiOne was to make sure that our devices will be taken back and properly refurbished or recycled when we opt to replace them with newer and more advanced products.

    Micro USB power input broken

@ALLOsupport thanks! So the main DC power source needs to be plugged in at the same time as the battery for startup? pardon my ignorance but what is the point of the battery in this case. I thought it could be used as an alternative to the DC 5v power, instead of the 5v input. What benefits are there in running the battery in this case?
  23. RX8R3ROD

    Allo Digione Signature

... Someone has to be, I guess 😄 Exactly as you say, the 5v iPower (at least for me, too) is sonically much better than the Allo wall wart (as it should be given the cost difference) and the Signature is a biiig improvement over the standard DigiOne. IME experience you will not be disappointed with the battery supply! 👍🏻 What I find such a marvel is how good the Signature is in any form, and the better we can power it the better it gets. 😁 Like you, I’m eagerly awaiting the Allo power supply!

  25. Hello, In my combination of RPI 3B+, BOSS v1.2 & VOLT a low buzzing can be heard. I use the certified RPI power supply for both RPI and BOSS, and a 19V /65W notebook PSU from HP. The buzzing doesn´t increase when volume is iscreased. Has anybody discovered this as well? Any clue where it comes from? Cheers, AnnaBlume

    Potmeter for Volt

Hi, you can use any stereo 10k logarithmics potentiometer. It should be dust sealed and provide a suitable tolerance in order to adjust left and right channel simultaneously. The stepped attenuator will be the best choice (if affordable). Cheers, AnnaBlume
