    Allo Sparky USBridge

Does anyone know how to disable the onboard audio for the sparky? I have a USB DAC connected via the USB Bridge and would like to not load the drivers for the Sparky's onboard audio. I am running dietpi but not the Allo web gui. I have tried creating an alsa-blacklist.conf file with both atm7059link and atm7059_link blacklisted but neither disabled the onboard audio. Any help is appreciated. Matt
  3. Purchased digione signature bundle and have had the following problems: 1. Could not connect to network when using ethernet. Was evantually able to get a connection using wireless and set up in Roon. But couldn't get sound via either coaxial or BNC (with adapter) to Oppo HA-1. I was able to hear sounds if I pushed and wiggled the BNC cable into the socket on the Allo. Behaved as if there was a short between allo and Pi but not sure. 2. Came back to this project after 2-3 days and now can not get the bundle to boot. Flashing red light on Pi and flashing green light on Allo. Please advise. Thanks.

Hi, apoligies if you didn’t find my ‘last page or two’ comment earlier very helpful. As nbpf suggested, the ‘how to ground an iFi iPower’ is recommended reading. You nay also read that iPowers are noisy, the work of the devil, etc and there’s some discussion on this earlier on in this thread. This link (it’s one of several on the web) compares the iPower to various other options inc traditional LPS’s and again, makes interesting reading.

Can you me a lead how to ground the iPower?

With so different subjective preferences, so many options available and the power supply for the dirty side being (hopefully) less critical than the power supply for the clean side, I doubt that there will be any consensus. If you already have a decent 5V/2A PSU, just try it. Otherwise, as I wrote, I think that a grounded ifi iPower is a very viable solution.

I think that one always has to add a drive to the library for this to be scanned, no matter whether the drive is a local USB drive, a NAS drive or something else. See, for instance, https://volumio.github.io/docs/FAQs/Audio_Sources.html.

Had to cover a lot of ground for relatively slim pickings... The only clean solution, so it would seem, is the the Acopian. https://www.acopian.com/store/1-(4).aspx Anyone knows which of their products is suitable for dirty side?
  10. EDIT: I found out that the assembled kit was with the emmc card fitted. When I connected the power supply, it booted into volumio. After playing for sometime I figured out that I was kind of unhappy with volumio. Primarily because it was doing something with the mpd queue. What was seen on the web interface was not matching with what you saw with any mpd app on andriod/ios devices. Also I managed to crash the system after doiing # apt-get update # apt-get upgrade After the system became unbootable, I had to disassemble the unit completely because the emmc card is in the bottom most card (the sparky board). This time i decided to try out the diet pi image. So I remove the emmc card, fitted on an emmc card reader and burnt diet pi image using dd on the emmc card. I had to again assemble the unit. Connected the unit and found that I have to configure unit using terminal. The configuration is more complicated than a volumio setup, but I found that I had much more control. Especially with MPD. My earlier setup was a self made HTPC with plenty of hard disk and Xonar Essence Dac connected to it. I mounted my Music directory of my HTPC on the allo hardware using NFS. This allo unit is definitely giving better sound than my earlier setup. One thing that is not working is "Wake up on lan". I ran ethtool and it gave the following error. So I have to figure out how to power on the unit. Right now I have to disconnect and connect back the power after a shutdown. root@DietPi:~# ethtool -s eth0 wol pg Cannot get current wake-on-lan settings: Operation not supported not setting wol More observations will follow later

Guys...What's the consensus, or the trending solution, for the dirty side? (Without going overboard a la SJ-2...) Preparing my setup for a new Signature. Thanks!

    VOLT+D class D amp , dual mono 2x 60W

I’m a tube guy, so I’m not familiar with digital amps and their clipping characteristics. With the 19v ps at high volumes, certain sharp transients produced a cracking sound. Wasn’t sure what it was initially because of the very detailed sound this amp has. Dropping the volume a bit got rid of that. With 24v, the sound seemed more relaxed at all volume levels. My speakers are an easy load for any amp. They are comprised of two transmission line enclosures—one big and one small. The small one is a quarter wave t-line with a Jordan JX-92 fullrange, and the large t-line has a Peerless 8 inch woofer. Little one sits on top of the big. Using a series crossover—one coil, one cap— the impedance does not drop below 4-5 ohms at any frequency. I have good frequency response in the low 20Hz range. Amplification I’m using in reference is a custom modded pair of Altec-Lansing 1570B tube monoblocks extensively reworked by Tom Tutay of Transition Audio Design In Ft Walton Beach, FL. Google Arthur Salvatore’s comments about this amp. A class AB amp and a real sweetheart of an audio device running around 170wrms of push-pull triode power. Two 811 transmitter vacuum tubes are the output devices. One 12AT7 input, one 6SN7 phase inverter, two EL34s drive the plates on the 811s. These amps have the same air and detail in subsonic frequencies that they have at all other frequencies. Best sub-woofer amp I’ve heard, and the best sounding amp in general. The Allo Volt+D shares many of the same sound characteristics including the solidity and detail of the lowest frequencies. I was truly gobsmacked when I first heard it. The only areas where the 1570s are superior, is in the depth of the stereo image, and the cost—the 1570s are valued at $10K. If the Volt+D had 150-200wpc, I don’t believe that there would be any difference except that the Allo is perhaps a bit more detailed overall. I leave the Volt+D muted without an input signal when I’m not listening. This is with a 24vdc 5a ps. So far, no problems. Any thoughts or comments? Source for this system includes a Fulla Schiit using a Allo battery pack for power, or a Scott Nixon Tube Dac+. Speakers are from Ronnie Thackeray at Carolina Audio. carolinaaudio.com Scott-Nixon.com. Hey Allo—-if this amp is as good as it seems to be, you better make a bunch of them.

Not sure how I would check that in the Volumio operating system. The lights on both drives come on while attached to the Digione Signature Player, so they appear to both be receiving electricity from the USB ports. I don't recall seeing anything in the Allo documentation about adding drives, though I certainly might've missed that.

    Allo Digione Signature

Can you check if both drives are mounted and can be accessed? I seem to remember that in Volumio one has to explicitly add a drive for this to be indexed. But I have only played around with Volumio for a few minutes, thus I might be mistaken.

This - may - be a limitation of the power the Raspberry Pi can provide to USB ports, depending on how power-hungry your drives are, and whatever else you have connected to the Pi. A number of Pi users recommend using powered usb hubs for multiple hdd’s. if you have one knocking around it might be worth a try?

I believe the answer to this is yes. I say this on the basis that a 12 / 9 v iPower, fed into plenty of supercap storage and superregulated (wired with superwire, isolated by superisolators, in a supercabinet blah, blah ... 🤔 ... 😂) is, for my PRaT-based sensibilities (and my other half’s tonality-based (... but suspiciously toe-tapping ...) preferences, better than the batteries. In my system with my electricity supply, anyway. However, whether that’s (or other good mains-powered solutions are) better than batteries that are given the ‘super’cap/reg treatment using particularly fast supercaps is something I plan to discover over Christmas, as almost all the parts have arrived now, except the regulators which are on their way. 😁 No Christmas pudding for me ...

After spending most of the evening listening and swapping back & forth I do have to say that in my system at least, and ifi powering the dirty side and battery the clean is noticeably better than the supplied psu supplying the dirty and the ifi powering the clean. So so my question now is whether the LPS 1.2 is better than the batteries?

    Allo Digione Signature

Caveat lector; my first post here. Took some doing, but I managed to get Volumio running on a Digione Signature Player, and am very happy with it. My question: Are the Player's USB ports all simultaneously active? I've got two external hard disk drives plugged into the Player, but the Volumio library feature only seems to be seeing the files on one of the drives. Is that a Digione issue, or a Volumio issue? Thanks!

KATANA ISSUE: RIGHT SIDE CHANNEL VOLUME

A quick peak here reveals it shouldn't be that way: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-allo-katana-and-applepi-raspberry-pi-dacs.4164/ I don't have any advice, but that might be a good place to ask (of course also ask the manufacturer).
  24. Hi to everybody! I have an issue with a brand new katana DAC. My configuration is: Katana dac with THD board (i'm waiting to receive also SQ Board) + Isolator v 1.2 and RPI B3+. Well, today i found that the right side channel volume is lower then left one. I've tried with moode audio and also with Volumio, but the issue is the same. I've also tried without the isolator, but the problem remains. What's wrong with katana? It could be a software issue? if the card is faulty, can it be replaced?

Thanks! I have to admit that I find this test difficult. I prefer having two devices connected to the DAC with two identical cables and then switch the DAC input on short (10-30 seconds) pieces of music.
