Is Radiohead the Best Band in the World?

I am a big Raidohead fan.

They use quirky percussion tracks.

They do not resolve chords in a traditional way.

They give concerts in Israel despite the outrage of people who should know better.

They are a counter argument to those who say there has not been any good (or at least interesting) music produced since 1969.

Wouldn't go that far, but I consider them the most important band of the last 25 years.

My nephew was very much impressed after attending their show in Glasgow recently. He is 24 y.o.

I'm not sure of that, though a sort of introductory or background write-up in Apple Music did 'ask' (or declare) that they 'probably' are. I am a 'very late bloomer' in this type of rock music but I am 'liking' them, especially their album "A Moon Shaped Pool" (my very first LP of them); I just ordered "OK Computer" and this seems to show that they are either 'growing in me' or 'I am growing with them'.

I only disagree in that there are some serious bands out these days who won't get the spotlight like Radiohead--maybe one day if they grind like Radiohead. There's so much great innovative music right now--it's almost too crowded.

Radiohead's skill is they're still listening to new bands, they have their ears in tune with a lot of indie bands, and musicians for influence. Every band/musician/producer needs injections of influence, except John Zorn.

To ME, I hear Kid A and  Amnesiac in everything since. But that's my issue. :-)

IMHO they are the most influential, creative band in the world (that I've heard).  I was a little worried during their Limbs period (they got lazy I think), but Moon Shaped Pool revived my total trust in their incredible vision.   That album took about 20 listens to get right, but boy, what an album!!

I was turned on to them by my oldest son. back in 2003, just after Hail To The Thief was released.  Mike had given me Amnesiac as a gift years earlier and I couldn't get it at all.  After a two day car trip where we played HTTT multiple times (along with OKC) the light came on...and has burned bright ever since.  When I got back from that vacation trip I immediately soaked up Amnesiac, then Kid A, etc etc.   They've been in my rotation ever since.  We saw them at Bonnaroo in 2006 and then again locally in 2008 or 2009.

IMHO until one sees them live it would, in my estimation, be hard to have an opinion. I didn't get RH until I saw them live ten years ago. The synergy between the members, the time signature changes they pull off and the absolute sonics are unrivaled in my opinion. They are a never miss act when they come around. A cant recommend a live show enough.

There are so many artists that I can say this about and many I have seen. Bryan Ferry, Robin Trower, John Hiatt, Bettye Lavette, Thomas Dolby, and of course Nick Lowe. There were so many others out there. All of these groups had a synergy and talent that goes beyond anything I have heard before.

As far as band synergy, Dianna Krall has an amazing band behind her (I really wan't crazy about here until I saw her live).

I like Radiohead, but I think there are many others out there just as good - I wouldn't call them the worst band out there :D
