I hope I can help. I have walked the path of starting with nothing towards a 100% networked audio system and wrote down all design choises I made in a 25 pg whitepaper which can be downloaded from my website. (download section)

I hope it gives you some starting points. Although there are so many routes you can take depending on what you want to achieve.

If you want to stream music through the house, it is hard to beat the squeezebox touch or sonos. I use the SB and love it. It is easy to set up, has a terrific user base that is happy to answer questions on the logitech website, and the sound quality is very good from the analog outputs (i.e., you don't need to add a dac but you may want to down the road). It will do internet radio, it will stream all your music, and has a pretty handy alarm feature if you plan on using it to wake up in the morning.

For speakers, there are so many, many choices. You could do a lot worse than the audio engine A-5 plus which are powered speakers and come with all the necessary cables. For a total investment of $650 (the A5 plus run $400, the SB Touch is currently running $250 on Amazon), you will have a great sounding flexible system that you may never want to upgrade. If you do one day decide to upgrade, this is really easy to use in a 2d room. Also you can still find the older audioegine A-5 speakers available on Amazon for $300. Happy hunting and listening.

Thanks for your kind help. I have a huge amounts of music in over 4TB in External HD (both DLNA & USB). I normally used foobar2000 for tagging, I used to love MusicMatch but now I have is MediaMonkey.

I'm looking to start as a computer audiophile and have an M-Audio Pro (USB) connected to a small stereo. I'm looking to stream easier great music with better equipment and all of it must be totally wireless.

The Squeezebox Touch is much better than you think, and you might want to reconsider putting it on your list. If you feed the output to a early good DAC, it is competitive with most of the better transports. (Caveat: I use it here, even in the main music system. It doesn't embarrass itself with Maggie 1.7s, an Odyssey amp, and any DAC I have put on it, including a low cost PeachTree DAC*IT.

Logitech needs to put the SBT in a fancy aluminum enclosure, with a nice think faceplate, charge 1K for the thing and sell them to audiophiles...

Then leave the normal one alone for those of us who know.

I Have and M-Audio PRO USB, a Samsung 49" connected wireless in my network, several Seagate, and Bufallo HD in DLNA mode, and a Iomega Go 1TB though a USB, which is causing me huge problems. Yes, most of my huge CD Collection are SACDs (made in Japan with sleep sleeves), Mercury Living Presence, RCA Victor, etc.

The MçAudio Pro is connected to the network though a USB Port and for now connected to a Bose Radio. I might get a pair of Focal, Tannoy, or any other great pair of Hi-End Studio Speakers.

When you all say DAC, what do mean by this? How do I connect it to the M-Audio-Pro and stream WIRELESS to some Radio Internet like the one in the link above?

@Audiodoctor: great if a little cynical idea (I like it). Wireless has its issues; there is a lot to be said for a product with a very large base of users and that is constantly being updated. If you want to go wireless, go SB.

If you look at what WHDI Association, F5, CMSA,APPL, etc, etc etc are getting into (wars for wireless) then you can see that wireless is one way to go. The other is "Absolute Sound" type of way, meaning no PC oriented.

Which DAC do you recommend that has a decent price? Wireless is a better choice for a DAC.

Also, What is better J, River media Center 17 or MediaMonkey? I find a constraint in the MediaMonkey as to the length of the file name, which are a most for Classical Music?

One more question: What's the difference between Optical and S/PDIF?

Don't have an Apple, which is best FLAC or Wav?

If I have the music servers and the PC in one room but the AV and speakers in another, would one SB be sufficient? Apparently I would need two but I don't know why.

No. You use either the ethernet or wireless connection to the SBT, which needs to be physically connected to your music system (AV) - by either its analogue or digital outs (your preference). You'd need to have the SB server software running on one of your servers/PCs.

Server/PC with SB server software>network>SBTouch>AV/music system

Right on, right on. However, Logitech doesn't sell the SB any longer. It sells a combined NEW Squeezebox and Radio.

It lacks inputs such as two more Optical INputs

That's fine and good. However, you either need and amp (good but decent price) or Active Speakers. I prefer passive speakers such as PMC Twety.24 but I don't know, which amp to get that has at least two optical inputs.

PeachTree DAC*IT + SB .....which NAD Amp? Does it need to be an integrated NAD Amp?

are there any other DACs that you like similar in price to the PeachTree?
