  1. Hi All, I used to run Win7 on the laptop, but got onto this: https://www.highend-audiopc.com/ and found the improvement of running WinServer12+AO substantial. Hence, I would like to keep the set up while migrating to a new laptop. The SSD is only 18 months old. In an ideal world I'd like to be able to just drop it in to the new laptop. Is this not possible? Will drivers be an inhibitor to the easy option? If not I'll have to clone the new laptop's HDD onto the SSD, then install WinServer12+AO on a second partition with JRMC 20. Appreciate advice on whether the easy path is possible or not. Mrvco - I'm keen to have the SSD internal to the laptop, and am willing to risk the warranty.
  2. Hi All, I have an existing laptop in my system, but I think it's time for a change. It runs very hot, and very loud (fan), and I can try to get it serviced but expect it's on the way out, it is 7 year old. The battery is also dead. It has a SSD in it, only 2 years old, which runs a Server2012-Audio Optimizer-JRMC set up on it that I really like. It also dual boots to Win7 with audio programs on it for ripping etc. Essentially, the SSD is exactly as I want it and I expect to migrate it to the new laptop and ditch the HHD inside the new laptop (not expecting to buy a new one with SSD inside). Ideally I'd like to remove the SSD from the old laptop and drop it into the new laptop. What limits this from happening? Drivers? Am I better placed cloning the new HHD onto the SSD, losing settings, then reloading it the SSD as I want it with the new computer's drivers etc? Alternatively, am I likely to be able to get my old laptop serviced to a point that the fan isn't blowing high all the time? Cheers, James
  3. So I've installed the optimizer ontop of a R2 Win Ser 12 trial edition, still in GUI and am happy so far. I only have 1 PC so will only be able to run singlePC setup. I use JRMC18. I'm looking to move to core mode, but notice that I might have a few limitations and want to check before I do so: 1. I tried moving JRMC18's output to Kernel Streaming and it wouldn't play into my DAC. I switched back to WASAPI and it was fine. I'm assuming my DAC (v-link 1 into peachtree idac) won't do kernel streaming. 2. My music is currently on a NAS. Do both of these items prevent me moving to core mode? I think so from reading the manual. I can put the music on an external HDD (my internal SSD isn't big enough) via USB if that will help. Cheers, James
  4. Without knowing what I'm looking for...within the 'critical' category are a number of event type 41, Kernel-Power - is this what you meant? ...Since then I've done a bit of playing around, and some forums suggested power/overheating issues. I've set the power settings back to default and it seems to be OK so far. Fingers crossed this was the issue.
  5. I've gone to the computer, right clicked and chosen 'properties', on the general system page it says 'windows is activated'
  6. I'm heading down this road, but seem to have got stuck early. I have installed the trial of WS12 after registering online, and it is counting down the days. I have also install Jriver 18, which i already own. I have my laptop set up with the original Win7, and the new WS12 in a new partition. I needed to reinstall JR18 on the WS12 partition as it wouldn't let me run it from it's old location. To re-register this second edition of JR18 I had to use the original registration key, which gave me a 'trial instalation', I then received a rather criptic email from Jriver about '14 days' something something. Now that i am trying to play from WS12/JR18 I find that my computer seems to shut down after 5-10mins play. I have investigated the power settings, and changed them all to 'never shut down' including when I shut the laptop lid. I think if I am using the laptop then it will keep going, it's only when I shut the lid and move away to 'listen' that the timer seems to start. I'm baffled, as I can't find anything in the power settings that would trigger a shut down. Is there something the WS12 settings? JR18 settings? that would be causing this?
  7. Does anyone know what happens once the 180 day trial finishes? With the trial server be useless of this purpose?
  8. $99 DAC - MODI - $99.00 : Schiit Audio, Headphone amps and DACs made in USA.
  9. I have a combination of lossless (ALAC) and lossy (some MP3, mostly AAC) and can always hear the difference. I'm going through replacing the lossy files as I can. Not sure why you'd drop down?
  10. I tend to go for as large as possible, assuming I can find a square image online. Similar musicophile I do it to future proof wanting larger images in the future. I'm not sure about XLD as a ripper, but google image search is good for finding images - especially as you can limit to images larger than a set size.
  11. Method 3: Move your entire media folder onto the external harddrive, then in itunes advanced options/features change the location to the new folder. Itunes will then 'reorganize' you media folder, but won't actually move anything but it will relearn where your files are located. Then you can just open itunes normally. (Note this is based on my experience with PC Itunes, not sure about a mac)
  12. Use MP3Tag, it's really easy and effective. Despite its name it does most file types.
  13. Just to add to souptin, you can only choose AAC, maxed at 256. I agree that I prefer AAC over MP3 too (I'll even take a 256 AAC over a 320 MP3). Try not to go below 256 if it all fits, otherwise it does start to get murky. The other way to 'reduce' the size of your library is to create a playlist and sync your ipod off that - you can then delete and add albums to the playlist so that you stay below the 100GB limit you want. It means you won't have 'everthing' on your ipod, but it'll be pretty close. I'm betting the total is 112GB.
  14. I have a SSD in my laptop (a PC, but similar principle) and my files externally on a NAS. Previously I had everything on a spinning HDD inside my laptop. I've found the sound improve and become smoother now that the laptop doesn't have a spinning HDD inside it. In regards to the fusion drive, my understanding is that it is basically a SSD and HDD, which utilises the SSD first but when full pushes additional files onto the HDD to give more room. As such a fusion drive might not be the best option as you'll have a spinning HDD being utilised. I'm basically never going to buy a computer with a spinning HDD in it again, if I can avoid it ($).
  15. Hi, I've moved to JRMC18 and used the JRMC17 settings, and it sounds identical to me. I a thread on the JRMCForum the JRMC team commented that the changes are focussed on the performance of the application rather than changing playback, so therefore all the tweaks still apply. Since upgrading I've noticed 18 is much more responsive as an application, sounds just as good, and that other than saying '18' during start up looks exactly the same as 17. Cheers, JB
