1. Are you ripping to ISO or ripping files direct to DSF or DFF ? Try ripping to ISO and then extract the files to DSF using Sonore ISO-2-DSD I have done 15 or so SACD's both Multi Channel and Two Channel and have not come across this. I have not done Jazz At The Pawn Shop yet. Which SACD do you have ?, the first issue by First Impression Music or the Anniversary issue by Proprius Music ? As far as I know both are 4CH/2CH I am using An Oppo 105
2. Those of you with the Pioneer issues, have you made sure the firmware is up to date in these units ?
3. Ok, I think I have some success to report. I went through my entire system, checked all speaker and wiring connections. Did not find anything wrong, but who knows. I then removed JRiver MC and did a complete clean install and I think I have this thing working. I have it set in DSP Studio to Output 5.1 with no Upmixing or Downmixing. This time it seems to be working, no sound from the center with 5.0 (4ch material). 5.1 and 2.0 seem to work as well. I have absolutely no explanation for this, as I used these settings before. Now, when I set it to Source Number of Channels, the behavior is as it was, 5.1 and 2.0 work fine and 5.0 does not play the surround channels at all. A few observations: When Using the 5.1 Output, I notice the lights for all six channels come on my receiver regardless of actual channels being played. If playing 2ch material, all Six channels are lit up on the front panel of the Yamaha. When using Source Number Of Channels, then the channel lights light up in accordance to the actual channels being played. I tried this with Foobar as well, when using Foobar, all formats play properly and the correct channel lights on the Receiver light up depending on how many channels are actually being played. It would seem that in 5.1 Mode MC is creating a 5.1 Channel container to send to the receiver regardless of the amount of channels being used. This seems like a great work around for the issues associated with telling it to use Source Number of Channels, but it is a workaround. I personally think The Source Number of Channels option needs to be fixed so that it plays only what the file has in it, and sends only what is necessary, and not a flag to turn on all the amps even if no signal will be sent to all of them, which 5.1 Mode seems to do. I guess the Source Number Of Channels needs to be fixed to properly see any combination of channels properly, weather it is the popular 5.1 & 2.0 or the not so popular 5.0. I hope the development team will fix this in the near future. It would really reduce the amount of confusion getting things to work as expected. Also I am not sure why JRSS Mixing is set as default and as the recommended choice. I think this has added a lot of confusion to many people. No Upmixing or Downmixing should be the Default setting. Just my opinion. Much thanks to everybody who has been helping me with all this. I will not post anymore on this so as not to distract anybody. Thanks again.
4. A Distraction, really..... Which forum do you think taught me to build a Music Server, Rip all my files, Use Jriver, and extract DSF files ? So sorry to be such a distraction.
5. All my ISO & DSF Files were ripped via a Oppo 105 The only ones with Issues are the 5.0. All the 2.0 & 5.1 Are fine
6. OK, I just tried this and it made no difference at all. I think Jriver just can not see a 5.0 file properly. I have posted all this on the Jriver forum, lets see what they have to say.
7. Just for fun, I used DbPoweramp to convert one of the DSF Files from The Best Of The Doors SACD into a Multi Channel WAV file. I then opened it up in Audacity. It is 5.0 and mapped correctly. FL, FR, Center (No Sound Info in it) RL And RR. I now believe that Jriver does not know what to do with a 5.0 File and it is a software issue. It will not play the 5.0 WAV properly either. Just vto clarify, I have my Yamaha RX-A3040 set to straight, no decoding of any kind. JRiver set to "Use Source Number Of Channels. I also tried the 5.1 Channel Setting in Jriver and it then plays in 5.1, but it is doing it in all my 2 channel material as well. Everything works properly when set to "Use source Number Of Channels" with exception of the 5.0 files, if it is a 5.1 file it detects and plays fine, 5.0 plays as a 2 channel. UPDATE: As I was typing this I was playing Soul Kitchen, and it sounded like all the info was there even though it was coming from FR &FL only. Then People Are Strange came on next and a lot of music information was missing due to Jriver not wanting to recognize a 5.0 File Properly and not playing the rear channels. I think I need to have a chat from somebody at Jriver support.
8. That has not been my experience, when I turn on Output to 5.1, I am getting music out or the surround channels despite the fact that it is a 2 channel source. When I choose Source Number of Channels it works perfect at detecting the number of channels to play, Just not with this particular set of DSF files. The disc was set up to re-create the original Quadraphonic recording of Best of the The Doors album from 1973. Technically it should be a 4.0 channel recording, not utilizing the center channel or the sub. If I use DBPower amp file information, it reports it as being a 5.0 channel recording, not sure what the 5th channel would be. Jriver plays this particular file in 2CH even tough I have 5 lights on on the receiver, If I switch Jriver to force 5.1 playback, it will play in 5.1, but it is not a 5.1 recording. If I set to play in 4CH mode in Jriver, it continues to only play 2 channels, and the issue is that I do not hear any missing information. I think there is something substantially different on these Audio Fidelity SACD's that are recreating old 4 Channel mixes. I think I ran into this on the Pink Floyd Immersion Box Sets as well, I could not get Jriver to play the Quad Mix of Wish You Were Here properly either, the 5.1 Mix no problem. At this point, I am not sure where the problem lies.
9. I have tried this, but this is not true Discrete 5.1 and it does it to everything, 2CH included. The source is a 4.0 CH DSF, (or as DbPowerAmp reports it as being 5.0 CH and being set to play source channels, Jriver should see it properly as it does 5.1 files you would think.
10. Ok, I have ripped several SACD's, both 2 Channel and Multi Channel and all work great playing through Jriver Media Center to my Yamaha RX-A3040. Today I ripped the Audio Fidelity SACD "The Best Of The Doors". The 2CH DSF files play great, The 4CH DSF files (Quad Mix), which shows up in DbPoweramp info as 5.0 Channels instead of 5.1 will only play in 2CH on Jriver, JRiver is set to play the Source Number Of Channels. Anybody having issues with playback of Audio Fidelity 4 Channel SACD Files ?
11. Thanks for the info, I guess I will let Jriver do the PCM conversion and enjoy the music, It sounds great so far.
12. I have ripped my first SACD to DSF files. Very exciting ! But I am having playback problems. I use Jriver-V21 on a Media Server connected to a Yamaha RX-A3040 via HDMI. How can I get Jriver-V21 to play them natively to my Yamaha RX-A3040. The Yamaha can recieve and process DSD bitstreams as I have done so via the OPPO 105 with no issues. I have Jriver set to bitstream DSD in Jriver and keep getting a message that states "Playback could not be started on the output WASAPI using the format DoP 2.8Mhz 2ch" I have tried every setting I can find and it will not play them back nativley. It will play them by letting Jriver do a PCM conversion first. Any ideas on this ?
13. Thanks Chris, I got it to work using 62:16:74, no zeros in front.

One other question Chris, How are you using the multi-channel files in JRiver. I can not get Jriver to output in multi-channel PCM, only Dolby Digital via the DSP Settings, and it certainly does not sound as good as the original source. The two channel is great though.
14. Thanks for all the great info Chris, I have one question though. I have just ripped the Tom Petty "Damn The Torpedoes" Blu-Ray This exceeds one hour. This puts the last two tracks at 01:02:16.942 & 01:06:48.963 from the chapter.txt file. what format should this be in in the cue sheet file. I have tried 01:02:16:74 and 01:06:48:74, but JRiver Media center does not recognize this and only shows 17 of the 19 tracks. Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks.
15. I have just built my first Music Server, and all seems to be going well, with one exception, and I need some help. First, The Specs for this machine are as follows: OrigenAE S16-V HTPC Case ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe Mother Board AMD Phenom ll X4 Processor ASUS Xonar Essence STX – PCI Express EVGA - GeForce GT 520 2GB GDDR3 PCI Express Video Card Two - 2TB Western Digital Black Series Hard Drives SATA Asus CD/DVD SATA Drive Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit J River Media Center Software I built the machine in my office, got it up and running, no problem. I loaded all my FLAC files on it and set up J River Media center. Most of my files are straight rips from CD’s and are 44.1K/16 Bit. Some are from other sources and are 96K/24 Bit and 192K/24 Bit. For my test set up I hooked up the HTPC to a Yamaha RX-V 520 AV Receiver via a Digital Coax Cable. As I played some of my files via J River Media Center, the display on the receiver would change from PCM to PCM 96K depending on the file being played. It would just display “unknown” If I played a 192K file but that is a limitation of this receiver. So I said to myself, Cool this works perfect, the computer is outputting the various resolutions properly, Yea ! The next step was to move the Music Server to my main rig which uses a Pioneer Elite SC-27 AV Receiver. Now to the problem. Got it hooked up to the main system, same as above, Digital Coax to the Pioneer Elite SC-27. The problem is that the Pioneer does not display the resolution such as 192K Stereo, 96K Stereo on its display depending on the mode it’s in it just says STEREO or PCM. If I play something on my Oppo BDP-83 from a disc that has 192k or 96K info the Pioneer will display 192K Stereo or 96K Stereo. The Oppo is connected to the Pioneer via HDMI. Does anybody know why the Pioneer does not detect and display this info from my PC ? My little old Yamaha did. I can’t figure it out. Am I doing something wrong? Hope somebody can help.
