  1. Ha now I think I understand what you are saying. So as an alternative, because my Music Server doesn't sit anywhere near my home router, I could attach a wireless bridge to the server via an Ethernet cable. Am I right with that?
  2. Jason, remember, CAPS v2 does not have to be wireless to be found by an ipad, just on the same home network. Any ipad app that will access code from a Windows-based application will be CAPS-capable. Jremote, Apple remote, various VNC (remote screen) apps like LogMeIn-Ignition, SplashTop, etc....many possibilities Hi Ted_B and thanks for the reply.....can you tell me how I would get this to work not using wireless please....Im a bit confused by it. Cheers
  3. After a few hours research and sourcing components I now seem to have all the components sorted and potentially sourced for this project. I have had a bit of brainstorm over either going for the SoTm tx (USB) PCI card (which would require an external DAC and probably an expensive one to get the best out of it) or the Audiotrack Prodigy Burson Edition Sound Card (which means I can do without the DAC and go straight into the Amps). I have been told the Sound Card is equivalent to DAC's in the £230 to £400 price range which is where I was looking at anyway. Final Spec will be: Wesena Mini ITX6 Silver Case Intel D525MW Dual Core Atom Mainboard (1.8GHz) 4GB SODIMM RAM PicoPSU-90 DC-DC Power Converter, 90W 12V Linear Power Supply OCZ 180GB Vertex2 3.5" SSD AudioTrack Prodigy Burson Edition Sound Card (24bit / 192kHz Playback) Windows 7 Home Edition 32Bit (as the Soundcard doesnt support 64bit) JRiver MC17 Obviously whilst not a CAPS version2 server....the above machine will be completely silent and free of moving parts. It will also have low power consumption :-)
  4. I must say that Silverstone LC19 case is very sleek..especially in Silver :-) It doesn't look very tall at all......how do you output music from it? Would it fit the Sotm tx pci (USB) card in there? Or do you just use the on board USB outputs into a DAC? I also decided on the Intel D525 KT board...this is Intel Atom chip but is 1.8Ghz rather than 1.66Ghz and take DDR3 RAM up to 4GB. I am looking to either add the SoTm PCI card or a sound card with built in DAC (AudioTrak Prodigy Burson Edition HD2 SE card)
  5. Thanks for that...the Intel D525MW board does seem to have the same processor and is cheaper than the Jetway, however the Jetway does away with the need for a PSU as its onboard. What do you use as the PSU for your Server? Obviously I could use the Pico PSU 80W and a 12V Linear Power Supply...but that would mean I would have a desktop based external power supply for the server. What could you suggest for power if I opted for the Intel D525MW?
  6. Cheers OBT_Man The other Option I have for the Motherboard is the Jetway NF96FL-525....which is used in the CAPS 2 Server. This might be the better bet as it is Fanless and has an onboard PSU....so I would then only need the brick type power supply as per the CAPS 2 server as well. The Jetway uses DDR2 RAM and wasnt sue if using DDR3 would be better. Case wise I may change to the Wesena Mini ITX6 which is similar to the OrigenAE and will accept the PCI Card at a later date. I wanted to keep the storage on board and not have to faff with an external hard drive....music would be stored on the internal HDD permanently but the price of SSD at the moment makes fitting one of these unfeasable for the forseable future....hence opting for a Traditional HDD. I know this wouldnt be completely silent and pefect but it would allow me to upgrade as funds allow and prices come down. Thanks for the input though :-)
  7. Hi Guys, My current Netbook due to HDD space and limited RAM is not really up to the Job I want it to do.....I don't really have an issue with noise as this netbook runs silently and I cant make out any discernable noise contamination from HDD / fan or Power Supplies. Rather than buying another Netbook which will be restrictive in the future for upgrades I am thinking of building a modest server, which will consist of: Gigabyte GA D525 TUD Intel Atom Dual Core MotherBoard (1.88Ghz) 4GB RAM (2x2GB) 750GB WD 2.5" HDD 12V Linear Power Supply Pico PSU 80W Sotm SATA Power Filter to sit between the HDD Wesena ITX2 S Silver Case This would come in at about £413.00 excluding Operating System (Probably Windows 7) and would run JRiver MC17. Would this work as far as anybody can see?? I would initially use the Motherboard USB out for Audio but would look at adding the Sotm tx pci (USB) Audio Card and a SSD at a later date.
  8. Does the CAPS 2.0 server have wireless capability or is it hardwired? I use an iPad (Jremote) with MC17 on my Netbook at the moment but I am thinking of building the CAPS2 Server but cant work out if its wireless or not. I would also be a +1 for JRemote App, its very good. I am also trying the Gizmo based web browser app...but it seems to keep jumbling album artwork and artists up. JRemote seems much better from this point of view and show album art......all album tracks and basic tag information.
  9. I understand what you are saying with regards to the Netbook.....I am in the process of looking at three options at the moment....upgrading the netbook ..including adding adding a SSD and passive cooling, upgrading the RAM and taking the wireless of board. Using a laptop that I have at the moment, running windows 7 and having a larger HDD and 4GB RAM...however this is also a work laptop and I really wanted to just keep my music server connected to the amps. Final option is to build a Dedicated Music Server like the CAPS2 running JRiver. Just currently weighing up all the options....however at the moment the Netbookmseems to work cpfine controlled via my Apple iPad.
  10. Thanks for the details, thanks for he offer bu I really want to get a silver case, as my amps are silver and wan to try an d keep it uniform. Thanks for the offer high mate. Jason
  11. And thanks for the majority of helpfull comments and suggestions. I have persevered with MC17 and believe I have now got it sorted and have begun to understand it. I have imported my apple lossless and FLAC files, have downloaded 95% of my artwork and have managed to set a filter that will alow me to find just my FLAC files or browse all my files. I have downloaded the Jremote for my iPad and this is working and believe I have the most optimised settings for my DAC.....unfortunately though, due to a combination of using Windows XP and my DAC I can't use either ASIO or WASAPI. As most of you said it was just a case of reading and playing and a little bit of patience. I am sure there is lots more I can do and that it will do....but at least for now it is working. Once again thanks for all the help :-)
  12. OK....I'm getting there slowly :-) I have now sussed out how to download the album art and it is slowly working through the albums as we speak. I have also been playing around with the tabs and having a look at different views etc and its beginning to become a bit more logical and understandable. Unfortunately patience wasn't something I was endowed with and I just tend to want everything to happen now. This is not the case with MC17 and it obviously takes time to understand it and set it up correctly. So that is my Lossless music sorted....now I need to import my HiRes FLAC files and then set up a view option to allow me just to view FLAC (this is OK as its only HiRes stuff thats in FLAC). I then need to have a look at and understand how to set up MC17 or music playback and optimising the settings for use with my DAC (Nuforce Icon uDac2) and system. Thanks for all the help and advice so far :-)
  13. Thanks Chris, This is what I am beginning to realise, and maybe trying to look at this at 10.00pm after a day at work was not the best idea :-) I have come back to it this morning and I am beginning to understand it a lot more. I have realised when I was trying to reimport my files I had the box ticked that said "Ignore previously deleted files". After correcting that it has now imported the files again. JRiver has downloaded some art work and not others for my ALAC files. Does this mean that I am going to have to click on each album and manually download the art work from the internet? Also I haven't yet imported my HiRes files into JRiver....when I do what is the easiest way to be able to search for each of these seperatly....i.e. distinguish between 16/44.1 files and then all my Higher Res Files? I have heard that JRiver is pretty powerfull and a good Music Server Software, I know I just need to persevere and play around with it....I am jsu used to itunes which takes no setting up :-)
  14. Right ive decided to persevere and have another go today.......hmmm seem to have hit another problem.....because I deleted my ALAC files out of JRiver yesterday it now just overlooks the files and "says it has ignored them because they were previously deleted" It's little things like this that make JRiver annoying to use.....i really want it to work because of the good things I have heard about it.
  15. To be honest I don't really care how good something is...if its not easy to use and set up...which in my mind something like this needs to be...it's not much use. From what I have seen so far.....JRiver is far from easy to use and setup. Looks like it may be back to iTunes and Foobar2k for me.
